Starcraft 2 - Official!

Be sure to check out the Zerg vs. Terran/Protoss videos in my previous post. In the Zerg vs. Terran gameplay video, it shows what appears to me "infestation" units. The video starts off by showing burrowed units tunneling under the ground of a Terran base (going past standing Marines). It then shows the units coming out of the grounds and literally puking all over a couple of barracks which in turn infests the Barracks. Also, it appears that the infested Barracks automatically brings out some infested marines.

The Zerg vs. Terran gameplay video also shows yet another unknown unit. This one is quite large and it has scythes that swipe twice dealing considerable damage to infantry units. We also get to see a Zerg Spawning Pool, some Drones, a Spore, and a Hatchery. We also see some Zerg flying units which look like Devourers at first but turn out to have moving tentacles instead of a cocoon like body. The interesting thing is that the flying units somehow "took over" two Terran Battlecruisers. In the video you'll see the colour of the Battlecruiser change from red to purple, and you'll also see a bunch of Terran Vikings attack it as soon as they're taken over. The odd thing is the Battlecruisers didn't turn around to fight the Vikings.

Last but not least, a classic Zerg unit is shown destroying some Terran infantry. The Ultralisk. It looks better and more "Zerg" like. From what I saw it still has the same main ramming/thrusting attack.

Unfortunately these new Zerg units haven't been added to the official StarCraft 2 Zerg page yet but we can expect it sometime this month.

Here's something interesting: The Making of the StarCraft II Cinematic Teaser. It has three parts to it, each one portraying different aspects about the cinematic teaser and how it relates to the StarCraft universe. I especially enjoyed reading part three which talked about the technology behind the cinematic teaser. As most of you already know Blizzard is known for their superb cinematic videos. I personally think it's of better quality than Blur Studios, a company dedicated in making 3D cinematic videos.

Wow! Check out the StarCraft 2 interview blowout at gametrailers.com! :omg:

EDIT: Near the end of this video, Chris Sigaty (Lead Producer/Blizzard Entertainment) talks about a StarCraft 2 beta. I hope it's a public beta.

If it is, it's probably only US and Korean residents :( .

Scirwode

Scirwode

If it's the US then they sure as heck should include Canada. Then again I'm sure people will find a way to, never mind.

On a side note, the Zerg Reveal Trailer is already online on the StarCraft 2 movies page.

Starcraft 2 boxart ?

OK, hope it is 3rd quarter 2008.

*Oh, and if you wonder what's that (Z) with orange background thingy on the boxart, It's a Zest logo. (If you ever heard the news that Steam started to disallow people from buying the game from other countries to get cheaper price, well. It started from Zest lol)

Nice find AnonymousX. The box art looks good. I was hoping for a similar box art to the original StarCraft/StarCraft: Brood War.

For those StarCraft fans out there, there's an interesting StarCraft Q&A archive over at battle.net which answers a number of questions in batches. So far there are 32 batches answering a variety of questions about units, game dynamics, map making, etc. Click here for batch 32. For some reason it isn't in the original thread I linked. All in all it's a good read. Here's an interesting question which surprised me:

Do Protoss warriors actually die? What is the blue flash when they die?

In the chaos of the battlefield, Protoss warriors fight with tremendous power and grace, but even so, they can be mortally wounded. Then the Protoss' foes often bear witness to a startling sight: the injured Protoss disappears in a bright flash of light. Such a vision has caused primitive races to quail in superstitious fear, and yet it has no supernatural cause. On the contrary, it is merely the result of teleportation, which is one of the chief strengths of Protoss technology. Protoss warriors typically have teleport mechanisms built into their armor. If the warrior is sufficiently injured, a properly functioning mechanism will automatically teleport the body to the nearest safe haven.

A Protoss warrior who is badly injured but still living may be placed in a dragoon--or latterly an immortal--shell to continue to fight. This is the choice of the individual warrior. Some warriors elect to shoulder the burden of remaining among the living instead of joining the sum of Protoss lives embodied in the Khala. It is worthy of note that the lives of individual Protoss that have passed into the Khala are no longer coherent entities, and the Protoss cannot speak with their dead per se. However, there are memories and strands of experience that can be accessed. Only the most skilled Protoss preservers can locate and follow specific desired strands of knowledge. The tremendous value of preservers comes from the fact that they carry within themselves and can access the sum total of Protoss experience at an individual level.

Anyway, this thread should be merged with the What is the true purpose of StarCraft 2?.

Koreans are going to make this game their national sport. As for North Americans and Europeans, we'll just play it for fun. And as for me, I'm going to play it for the storyline. I'm so eager to find out how the story from the original StarCraft progresses in StarCraft 2.

Its really amazing the amount of enthusiasm Koreans show for Starcraft. Its like as if its nationally televised or someting...

And the players are unbelievable skill compared to North American players.

That's true. They take the game much more seriously than North Americans. And StarCraft tournaments are aired on TV. Did you know that computer geeks are sex symbols in Korea? Professional StarCraft players in Korea are like movie stars in the US.
