gigapixels Veteran Posted May 19, 2007 Veteran Share Posted May 19, 2007 So the other day my parents discovered a bird's nest on the side of our house. I went ahead and took pictures of it for them, as it's 30 feet up (I think, I'm bad at guessing distances) and I'm the only one with a camera (Digital Rebel XTi, using the 75-300mm lens) that can get a detailed picture that far away. Anyway, we kind of wanted to know what type of bird it's from. I would have taken pictures of the bird(s), but either they're in the nest and not coming out, or they've already left it. I'm guessing the former as we found an egg that fell to the ground just this morning. Does anybody know what it could be simply by this picture of the nest? I tried looking around the net and can't seem to find any good bird's nest pictures that look like it, so that didn't quite work out. So if anybody has any suggestions on what type of bird it is or where I could look to compare it with other pictures I would appreciate it. It's not that big of a deal, we're just curious. And if anybody wants a higher resolution photo, let me know. The original image is 4 times larger than this. Thanks! gigapixels Veteran Posted May 19, 2007 Author Veteran Share Posted May 19, 2007 LOL I assure you it's not. It's definitely a bird's nest. I believe my parents have actually seen the birds once or twice. bfoos
Their nests can look similar, but seeing how the OP is in socal, I'd say it's more likely to be a cliff swallow nest. Post a pic of the egg or the inhabitants if you can. Laurë Veteran Posted May 19, 2007 Veteran Share Posted May 19, 2007 Looks like a House Martins nest  Hurrah for adult replies! Looks more like a bee's hive than a bird's nest. I thought that, but they'd know about it if it was. gigapixels Veteran Posted May 19, 2007 Author Veteran Share Posted May 19, 2007 Oh, wow, thanks for the quick replies. It does look very similar to a cliff swallow nest (after I checked it out on Wikipedia). That's probably it. I figured somebody on here would know more about birds than I do, seeing as I know next to nothing  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/561661-birds-nest-on-my-house/#findComment-588565687 Share on other sites
