richardsim7
Hey guys, I need some help. I recently upgraded from my Dell 1505FP (1024x768) monitor to a Samsung SM206BW (1680x1050). I used to have my photographs as wallpapers etc and it was great. Now I have a widescreen monitor, and as you might have guessed, they just don't look right (some are okay at best) Now, my camera (Canon Ixus 800 IS) has a widescreen option, so taking widescreen photos in the future is not a problem, however, the issue is, is there a way to convert my 4:3 photographs to 16:9 (maybe even 16:10 as that's what 1680x1050 is) ??? I'm not sure if this is the right section to ask, but ya know :p Many Thanks, -Rich- Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/564827-43-to-widescreen-conversion/ Share on other sites
Japlabot
You can't create something with nothing. You'ld either have to stretch or chop Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/564827-43-to-widescreen-conversion/#findComment-588600029 Share on other sites
xendrome
Not without stretching the picture, and losing the resolution. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/564827-43-to-widescreen-conversion/#findComment-588600035 Share on other sites
richardsim7
Interesting name  Well ok, most my pictures are 1600x1200 or 2816x2112 :s What do i do? :( -Rich- Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/564827-43-to-widescreen-conversion/#findComment-588600037 Share on other sites
Sheppard
You could chop the top and bottom off the pictures to create widescreen images but then you lose a lot of data. There is no way to convert them to widescreen without losing image quality or parts of the image. richardsim7
Hmm, I might be able to deal with cutting off the tops and bottoms (obviously not overwriting the originals) By how much do I cut them? :) -Rich- Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/564827-43-to-widescreen-conversion/#findComment-588600048 Share on other sites
Express
For a 1600x1200 you crop it to 1600x1018 For a 2816x2112 you crop it to 2816x1792 This is how the calculation is done: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/564827-43-to-widescreen-conversion/#findComment-588600136 Share on other sites

Express
Cool calculator app too :D Yeah. Love the application. Especially the cool graphing capabilities. Its Microsoft Math. Doh! Just saw that I used 1650 instead of 1680. So its 1600x1000 & 2816x1760 respectively.
