Hurmoth
True, but then when it dies, you loose your Phone, Mp3 player, and PDA. Thats why I like to keep them separate. I'm thinking, and of course this is nothing more than speculation, that Apple is going to have some way to backup the data from the iPhone to iTunes. WelshBluebird
True, but then when it dies, you loose your Phone, Mp3 player, and PDA. Thats why I like to keep them separate. And also remembering this has an internal (aka - non removable) battery, so unlike most other phones, you can't buy a spare one, and when that battery dies totally, then your $500/$600 iPhone has had it. SimplySchizo
I've been with Cingular (now AT&T) for 3+ yrs. I have great reception here, and never had a problem. Though I would love getting one of these, I can easily find the restraint not to. I will sit back, wait for the 2nd, and perhaps even the 3rd gen iPhone. Maybe then it'll have 3G, ability to run 3rd party, and hell gps would also be nice. Until then, my Nokia N73 will suffice. (sucks not being able to use its 3g capabilities with cingular) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/564937-iphone-coming-out-june-29th/page/4/#findComment-588602642 Share on other sites
Southern Patriot
Download stuff at high speeds. I've never used it because my phones have WiFi. As does the iPhone. Hell, where I live, it's easier to find a free WiFi connection than a reliable 3G cell connection. I know the situation may be different in the USA, Yes, the situation is VERY different in the US. You have to remember that many, if not most of our states are larger than your entire country, with many areas very sparsely populated. That is why infrastructure changes like 3G and fiber-to-the-home take so much longer to roll out here than in many other parts of the world. KeR
Apple banks on the mindless sheep that buy their products just because they "look good". There's nothing innovative or 'must have' about the iPhone, it's just a very cool set of gimmicks all rolled into a pleasant package, at a premium price. Truthfully, if you're stupid enough to buy the iPhone, you deserve to be fleeced. Ironically all the people getting it to be cool will suddenly find that everyone else around them also owns one, making it totally uncool to own in the end. I'm personally enjoying my super-thin, super-useful and versatile SE W880i which has everything (including 3G) in a package much smaller than the iPhone, and much more unique. As someone already stated here the same can be said about any product, generalizing the iPhone as you did just shows ignorance. spenser.d
http://youtube.com/watch?v=1xXNoB3t8vM Pretty much sums up what a joke the iPhone really is. There's also a rather amusing SNL skit that pops up in the related videos when this one ends. -Spenser Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/564937-iphone-coming-out-june-29th/page/4/#findComment-588602757 Share on other sites

Xero
I always find it funny when people say Apple is brainwashing people. Is that why Microsoft dominates the market? Yet they don't consider the "wow is now" crap brainwashing? Think of it like the matrix over 80% of the population is in it, and only a handful aren't. We form Apples fanbase ;) Besides I dun care who you are the iPhone is one hell of an smartphone and one if not the best on the market (when its released) there are some nice ones coming that have been announced but none are out yet. But remember its not all hardware its software, and Mac software is what makes something as amazing as it is, ask anyone running OS X. .kvn
To all the posters that have an opinion that the iPhone won't be that good I say this, stay with your berrynok sonyeric's semen phones with their fudgy interface's, silly rings, daft menus and outdated looks. The iPhone is unquestionably going to knock the market in the right direction and perhaps make the other makers rethink what a phone is supposed to be. Easy to use It also helps if it's going to be the best looking mobile on the market bar none. MiG-
I can see the software lock on the iPhone being battered in a short amount of time, i mean, its a closed platform, but depending on the security implemented, someone only has to figure out how to create an app that will run on the thing, i doubt apple have gone to a big deal of blocking out 3rd party software, its just no-one knows how to create software for it. It will be hacked, there is no doubts about it. Its mega overpriced, but such a cool gadget. Easy to use It also helps if it's going to be the best looking mobile on the market bar none. From your post, I can only assume two things: 1. You have not used one of those phones before 2. You are easily confused I think you would be hard pressed to find people that are confused by their phones. Don't exaggerate the current situation. I have a MDA. Want to use the calculator? Start -> Calculator. Want to play Age of Empires? Start -> Games -> Age of Empires. Want to use the internet? Hit the hardkey for Internet. Want to make a call? Hit the call button. If you have trouble using the MDA interface, then you have never used a computer before in your life. I'm all for the iPhone, but I find it's interface a bit lame. It really just looks like the Palm OS. A whole bunch of icons on a blank background. What am I missing here? vs The only thing I really like about the iPhone is it's media player which is an area that cell phones seem to lack. Just an example of how the iPhone interface is not impossible to replicate, there are many many mods that will change a WM5 to look like the iPhone. Tsk, tsk, tsk ;) Mobiles don't confuse me, they just aggravate me. btw those palm phones are as ugly as sin :x check out the calamari ad too. Hmmmm.....changing the WM5 interface to replicate Apple's iPhone.. The sincerest form of flattery as they say. #Michael
Well, as if the phone couldn't get more disappointing. First no 3g support and now no ichat support at first release. Now what say you people? So this is being marketed toward the teen/young adult group, who IM like crazy, but has no support for IM out of the box? WTF? http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2007/06/04/...tails-a-plenty/ 4. An iChat program will not be included in the initial operating system. Coupled with the lack of support for 3rd party apps for the time being, this means that there will be no way to get your instant messaging fix for now. Again, its not like you can't do that right now with a Mobile PC phone. I can open up TCMPC, watch Pirates of the Caribbean, open up Portable IE or Firefox or Opera, search for Seafood. Nothing new. Again, the only thing that I really like is that the phone knows when it is being held vertical or hortizonal. On the other hand, I will not buy it because I need hard-key keyboards unless there is tactile feedback when you hit an onscreen key. On my MDA, I have a touchscreen keyboard that vibrates for a split second every time you strike a key. It's not as good as the hard-key keyboard, but is good for short messages. Inplode
For one, the Treo 700wx and 750v both have a touch screen and both have WMP built in. Its the same damn thing the iPhone does and has but it supports 3rd party software and plugins while the iPhone is locked down to what Jobs wants it to have.
