Adster01
Hi guys, just wondering if anyone out there can recommend some software (free would be good) that monitors internet usage (ie how much has been downloaded. I'm trying to track my family's usage so we don't get lumped with big bills at the end of the month. Any suggestions would be appreciated... :)

DrunkenMaster
I count w/ my fingers. Saves having to rely on the computer in case the HD crashes and I have to rely on the ISP's unreliable records. You have to count fast and have a good memory. My ISP doesn't have caps (yet). I've used a download monitor before and I'm sure I'd go easily over the cap w/in 2 weeks . The odd Linux ISO and Windows Service Packs don't help. I've used DU meter and similar programs before and they do a good job *if* you're the only computer on the network. Otherwise, its a whole different story. If you're using a separate computer for a firewall take a look at Mandrake firewall. It doesn't packet logging and you can get an HTTP connection to you firewall to get up to date graphs and meters of usage. www.linuxmandrake.com
