Best Non Adobe PDF Writer / Reader ?

I was going through the PDF utilities list, but its not clear which is actually the best?overall,?does it support creating 128 bit encrypted PDFs? for?example?Azureus?is?the?most?feature?rich?BT client and?the most flexible?but?people?also use?utorrent?as?its?lightweight?on?system?resources and equally powerul in most ways.

PDF24 is really good. There are a few major bugs though at the moment which the developer does not seem to acknowledge (rotation bugs). However it does a good job.

Well it's not free but the Pro version of PDF X-Change is THE BEST. It even installs metadata handlers for Windows Explorer/Shell so PDF tags, author etc can be read in details view. If you just want a good free PDF Writer, doPDF is good (doesn't require GhostScript).

Sumatra is another good one, I keep it because it's just one file (portable). :)

+1 Samutra is a really nice pdf reader. But somehow I really want highlight feature, and I hope it should be in the next released of samutra.

For creation I use word 2007 and I print the file using dopdf.

foxit comes with so much filth in the installer now.

Last time I installed it I swear it installed some toolbar without asking. Of course, that could have been me just breezing through installer dialogues :whistle:

Also, for properly formatted reports check out LaTeX, can output pdf/dvi using various tools. Would recommend.

I tried Foxit, but on two different machine I ALWAYS get a "Switch To/Return To" (can't remember the exact wording) box. I tried PDFCreator. Got it installed and ran a few times, then nothing. Called tech support and they couldn't fix it. Just gave up and switch to Acrobat (for work at a school) it was worth it.

Not really complaining, just stating my personal experience with it.

I use Evince as my viewer, and my Linux OS, like most of them that I've seen running Gnome, has a built-in PDF printer, so any program that supports printing can be printed directly to a PDF file. LibreOffice has a one-click export option too, so that's nifty.

Edit: There is a Windows version of Evince, if you're curious.
