Apple Safari to be released for the Windows Platform!

Using the Windows version... The lack of a drop down marker in the URL bar and the inability to middle click a tab to close it is really starting to tick me off...

BTW is spell check working for anyone else?

edit: Using 75 MB RAM with one tab open.

It suppossed to spell check? Well it didnt. Btw, how do I delete entire word? In all other windows browsers CTRL+backspace works. Not in Safari. Plus clicking on the address bar does not select whats in it. Thats definitely a pain in the ass. And any way to import feeds from IE (or an OPML file for that matter?)

Yes. It appears to have some kind of spell check. Check out Edit > Spelling > Check spelling while typing.

It stll did not. Actually the item is not getting checked at all. And didnt Safari have an integrated PDF reader? Mine still opens up Adobe Reader 8 (and I cant seem to find a way to disable that).

Apple's Safari beta is probably designed to run on WindowsXP Service Pack 2 with all the current updates.

Well it's running beautifully for me on Vista Ultimate x64.

No, it didn't. There is a plugin you can download for the Mac version, but it's not built-in.

Now using FIVE browsers ...

IE7 (primary browser)

FF2 (used for my daily comics, so I don't get the popups)

Opera 9 (for checking my websites)

Netscape 9 (just for testing it)

Safari 3 (again, just testing it, and I've been wanthing this for years...)

Anyone else find it impossible to navigate FTP sites in Safari 3.0 Beta? Typing in an FTP site just opens the Download Manager and places a file on the desktop which opens a MS-DOS prompt.

this is great news, been wanting to try out this web browser for ages now and now i finally get the chance, only 2 things, rss is different in this, cant do the drop down menus from the toolbar to look for new headlines, and also, i know it imports my bookmarks auto, but is there any way i can import my passwords aswell?

to be honest buddy, i would recommend using a ftp client, its alot better for download with such as CuteFTP

I do use an FTP client (FileZilla), but if I just want to quickly download a file from FTP, I find using a web browser is alot easier.

I browse alot of ftp's using browser but if its something big I just use Smartftp...the public ftp's work alright tho :)

just heard about this today.. Downloading and using, and I must say I am pleased at first..

Fonts are "ok" just looks like clearfont isn't turned on.

Biggest problem for me is HORRIBLE color. That metal look has got to go. Are there any themes yet? lol

And the highlighting the entire word on the address bar annoys me too..

BTW is there anyway to have it open links in a new tab instead of new window without having to hold down ctrl+alt+del+yourfirstborn ?

I don't know what you guys did wrong but it works fantastic here. My only complaint is that it does use a decent chunk of RAM, and uses upwards of 80MB+ sometimes. If they can fix that I think it's set.

Fresh install of Vista, Office 2007, Halo & Halo 2, Newsleecher, SmartFTP, iTunes+Quicktime. All updates applied. No issues.

I just downloaded and installed Safari. It seems to be working fine on my rig. Just a regular Windows XP Pro SP2. As for as fast or faster than IE..thats debatable. Memory wise, it uses about the same as what IE 7 is using. I will play around with it somemore before I make any final decisions or switching of browsers.

I'd love for Safari to run like this on my machine. Alas, I still have the bold-fonts-are-not-displayed issue. Without it I'd gladly switch to Safari - it is a lot faster than Firefox and IE.
