That has happened a lot of other various clubs as well, it has been going on for years. Besides, anyone who sends their bank account details over the internet to someone they do not know needs removing from the gene pool anyway.

Anyway, I was not happy with all the anti-Scouse comments in that news item. They envy us I tell you...lad ;).

thats not the first time thats happened..

oh and martyn...

Torres came off at Halftime with Spain...possible injury!

Torres will be a big loss for us, but Crouch is in good form and Kuyt it bound to find the back of the net sometime soon...hopefully.

Rafa says Torres will be "unlikely" to play this weekend, Aragones says he is fine and Torres says he wants to play against Chelsea. I suppose we will find out on Sunday if he will play, but personally I do not think he will be risked, especially with Inter coming up soon.

GOOD

MUHAAAAAAAAAA

Git :p

I hope Defoe breaks a leg!

Has Everyone heard of this new 'idea' to have one game extra for each club to be played outside England? Absolutely rubbish, I'm sorry but the only reason is that these people want even more money than they already have.

If we give into this we are selling away the soul of ENGLISH football.

What are other peoples opinions?

Yeah I read about it today. Apparently they would like to add one extra game to the league so 39 overall (and the points will count in the table), that one round extra of games will be played overseas in various countries (to the highest bidder probably) with the top five teams being seeded so they cannot meet each other.

It is a dreadful idea, but it is a money game these days and people just want to milk football (and it's fans) for all it is worth. The game has been dieing for a while now, but I think this is the final nail in the coffin.

I totally hate this idea man. Why would they wanna ruin the game and go abroad just for some extra money?

Man... though it would be nice if Derby vs Birmingham was played in some Asian country! It would get a sell-out crowd!

Crazysah

It is understood the additional fixtures could be determined by a draw but that the top-five teams could be seeded to avoid playing each other.

Is this a joke?

How does that make the league fair at all. For example if it were happening this season and Man UTD and Arsenal were joint top and then Arsenal get drawn to play Derby whilst UTD have to go to Man City or something like that?

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has welcomed the Premier League's decision to allow all clubs to name seven substitutes in matches next season.

Spurs put the idea forward of expanding the number of substitutes to seven from five and the proposal was approved by a majority vote of the 20 Premier League clubs.

Levy was delighted the rule change had been approved and thinks it can only benefit players and clubs.

"It is very important for the league and for all the clubs and it something we have worked on for the last 12 months now," Levy told Sky Sports News.

"No one likes change and this is something we quietly, behind the scenes spoke to all the other clubs and over a period of time momentum built up and I am pleased that it went through today.

"Obviously what it means is that there will be seven subs instead of five for next season.

"For a manager's viewpoint it means he has more tactical options and I would like to think it would give a greater chance to some of the academy boys to get onto the bench and hopefully get the chance to become first-team players.

"I think from a player's viewpoint when you have a squad of 20-25 players, plus all the youngsters it gives them the opportunity that they have more chance of sitting on the bench."

Levy also rejected claims that the rule amendment will benefit the top clubs the most.

"To be honest that can be an argument," added Levy. "In reality all clubs have a squad of 20-25 players, bigger clubs may have more youth players as well as first-team players so there may be some influence in terms of average age that is sitting on the bench, but other than that I think all clubs will benefit."

the worst idea imo. as i understand it, the extra game is a random draw so if (for example) the season finishes like this one looks like it (ie 2 teams very close) the "runner up" could be drawn against some lower team and the "champions" against someone who came 6th and lose the championship.

if they made the game overseas as part of the normal 38 so everyone plays a team twice but that wouldnt work due to home/away differences etc

i don't like the essxtra game idea either, keep it he way t is, it's fine that way, and it' snot like the top teams play enough games already, but money is money. And too bad Torress won't be playing against Chelsea :(. Oh yeah there was an article aon football 365 where rafa was blasting the offside rule. I don't agree with him, i like the current rule, not the old one.

I think he's right to be honest. If you are off you are off. Anywhere beyond the last man is interfering in play whether they touch the ball in the build up to a goal or not IMO.

exactly, currently a striker can go offside, a defender drops back to cover him in case and then plays everyone else onside. if the [offside] striker didnt make the run, the other play could have been offside as the defender wouldnt have followed

The extra game thing isn't that bad as it's could be used in a winter break.

If it means every club has an extra game, then it may be usefull to all clubs to pick up some points. Then as said before, titles could be won from it.

I understand the need to play games in the other countries as the likes of the NFL are playing games over here, I think it just to get that extra money in, which is not a bad thing. It could mean that tickets prices will be steady. For the clubs like Portsmouth that extra money could be used to pay the loan off and even fund a new stadium.

I don't think it is bad for the supporters, as there is still 38 games they can watch, they will just miss 1 game which are bound to be on the tv in some way.

They say it's for the money and disrespect to the supporters. Well TV rights make the clubs money I don't hear much about that.

I like watching games on the tv, I like to see other teams play. As you can see I am approaching it with some caution, but it's no way a dam out right no. We must also consider that to make the league to stand out against the likes of spain and italy is to show our football style.

I haven't been following this too closely. How would they make the draw for this extra match? A random pick, perhaps? I don't really see the point in this. Managers already complain about there being too many matches a season.

OT, I read somewhere that by 2010 or 2011, most leagues will have to lower the number of teams to 18 only. Is this true?

I've not heard about this lower number of teams. That would be stupid and would only produce an even larger league system in the uk. That means the Prem would loose 2 teams which means they would fall to the championship, which then means with the 2 extra teams would make it 26 teams. So decressing that league would mean shaving off prehaps 8 if it goes for the 18.

I have heard about Blatter wanting to limit the number of teams going into europe. MP's want to get rid of incoming players from countries. Which infact is just wrong as the reason why the prem is like it is, is because of all of the different styles over the years have produced this.

Yes, Kevin Keegan has his hands full at this stage! I like the Magpies and do not really enjoy seeing them battle like this! They will have to work their collective socks off to avoid the possibility of relegation. At this stage of the season 40 points is considered safe. That said I would be very surprised and sad if the lads from Tyneside take the big plunge!

Newcastle Owners are the problems, and the reputation that comes with it puts managers off.

I'm quite suprised still by Kegan coming back. I don't think he's modern enough for them. I'm also worried about the structure, Wise seems to be in a technical postion, but answers to Kegan.

Some good fixtures this Sunday...

Liverpool are playing Chelsea, and Man Utd are playing Man City.

Hoping for Liverpool and City to win of course ;)

Man Utd lost to Man City...which made me rather happy. City have done the double over their neighbours this season now!

Liverpool drew at Stamford Bridge and (I thought) we played rather well, and a draw at Stamford Bridge is never a bad result.
