For Audigy users: Install the X-Fi drivers.

Recommended Posts

Creative hasn't released any new drivers for Audigy owners since March. They did update their drivers in May - but for X-Fi users only. BUT, after reading this post on Creative's forums I tried installing the drivers from the X-Fi driver package. It worked. It didn't fix the occasional sound hiccups I get, but sound quality probably improved by a small bit.

Instructions:

  • Download and install the Audigy driver package. The most recent driver for Vista x86 is here. (If you already have this driver, skip this step.)

  • Now download the X-Fi drivers. Open it with WinRAR or any equivalent archiver. Extract all the contents to a folder.
  • Go into the Drivers directory and open the Setup.exe. Tick the "Overwrite existing shared Creative audio driver files" box. Then click OK. Click Install for any Windows Security boxes you get.

These instructions should also work for x64 users and even for SB Live 24-bit users. In those cases, go to Creative's site and get the x64 drivers.

For me, no. I'm still trying to figure out what I installed that caused the hiccups.
