* Stay within the board rules, no matter how yummy you may believe it to be.

* If you are going to quote, there isn't a need to quote an img-embeded picture - Just don't do it. Please just reference the post by page number/page link/etc.

* Off Topic Posts will be edited or removed.

* The desktops thread is not to be used as a means to post images of a pornographic or otherwise provocative nature. We do not support a babes forum and neither will we in an unofficial capacity. Please help to keep the thread relevant and safe to browse for everyone.

* The moderators of this forum reserve the right to edit or remove your posts as necessary so they may comply with our Community Rules.

* In the interests of keeping the thread on topic it is strongly urged that you format your posts in the following order:

Programs: Name/where you got it (with link would be nice).

* Please use reduced-size thumbnails, where possible, out of respect for people running on lower bandwidth or screen resolutions.

can we embed flash videos from sites like youtube etc? if not, wonder if that can happen in near future.
You mean like this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4Fbk52Mk1w.swf

Just cut and paste this code:

[flash=250,188]http://www.youtube.com/v/XXXxxxxXxXX.swf[/flash]

Just replace the "XXXxxxxXxXX" with the actual youtube code.

Switched to Ubuntu (following the masses ^^)

Can I ask what fonts your using in for web pages in Firefox, ive spent quite a bit of time now getting my desktop to look nice with decent fonts & smoothing etc, but no matter how much I try, web pages in Firefox fonts alway look a little of, best way to describe it is like there missing little bits of the pixels used to draw the fonts.

It's Helvetica. Came with the system, not sure if it's the same font as Apple's Helvetica.

The UI font is Segoe UI, from Vista/Office2007.Using latest freetype2 (2.3.5, with the TrueType bytecode interpreter compiled in) and pango (1.17.5), font settings are slight hinting and grey scale antialiasing. No fonts.config settings in regards to Helvetica. Pango is important for kerning and all that, so if you want good font rendering, make sure you're using the newest version of that.

I'm using the Stylish extension for Firefox to override fonts in various webpages, if they default to something else. Youtube in the screenshot has no CSS overrides via Stylish, uses Helvetica by default. Should be mentioned that I purposefully don't have Verdana or Tahoma installed. Can't see these two anymore, I prefer Helvetica over them. A lot.

--edit: Checked, I have Firefox also use the FT2 autohinter, which overrides the slight hinting setting. It's in about:config, font.FreeType2.autohinted = true.

nice :) whats the hardware u are using ?

AMD X2 4200, Asus A8N-E, 2GB RAM, couple of 160gig disks, NVidia 7800GT, Intel PRO1000 PCI-e, Audigy2

Apart from the NIC rather common hardware.
