UFC 76 - Knockout

22 September 2007

The fight card already looks pretty full and is looking quite good.

Chuck Liddell Vs. Keith Jardine

Mauricio Rua Vs. Forrest Griffin

Thiago Tavares Vs. Tyson Griffin

Jon Fitch Vs. Diego Sanchez

Wilson Gouveia Vs. Jason Lambert

Just one thing about the main event though, I thought it would have been more adequate to put Liddell up against Houston Alexander after he knocked out Jardine silly at UFC 71. They could have pulled him from the UFC 75 card and left him for Liddell. I mean, Jardine has that loss to his name, and what if Liddell loses to Jardine? Where does that leave Jardine, because he has already been beaten by someone else in the division, so surely they can't give him a title shot, and if Liddell loses, what next for the

Can't wait to see Shogun vs. Griffin. About time a big namer got a decent opponent for his debut. Wonder how Forrest will fair up.

There was a dry spell for a bit... then a glut as the UFC bunched up several events, which we've now worked are way through. It's back to normal after this event.

Yeah plus the UK event that went down quite recently so its a good thing that theres alot of fighters in UFC.

Well, we had almost nothing after the first week of July till around the last week of August. So, it's about time we had loads!

We should have an equivalent UFC event to WWE Raw every Monday! Ok, maybe not! :p

Spoilers Below!

I've not managed to catch the fights yet, but saw the results on UFC.com. It sure was a night of upsets!.

What next for Liddell? I still wanna see them give him Wandy. Both fighters are coming off 2 losses in a row, so it'll be a good way to push either up back up top. As for Keith Jardine, well, he's shaken up the division but he still has that devestating KO defeat to Alexander. Winner of Tito/Rashad next maybe?

"PRIDE fighters beware! The UFC is coming to get you!" And it seems only Rampage has heeded that warning! Shogun submitted by Forrest Griffin. Great stuff! So, with Griffin having that loss to Jardine on his name, is there a rematch on the cards?

As for Shogun, another "superstar fighter in, and down he goes!" all that remains to be seen is whether or not Fedor suffers the same fate and if anyone can do it, it's gonna be Randy!

Off to Cincinnati we go! Brandon Vera, it's time for you to move up to the big time!

Just had a look at the results and LOL! at Liddell which was madness but then again where next for Chuck for the match against Wandy could be his make or break match imo.

Forrest Griffin pwning Shogun is the highlight I think but it proves something its hard to make that step up or step across from Pride to UFC plus if it was Pride rules then Griffin wouldn't of lasted its just that "ufc curse".

Possible Spoilers - Beware!

It's interesting about the "PRIDE/UFC Curse" it only seems to be one way or so it seems. IIRC, Frank Trigg and Nick Diaz did pretty well making the move to PRIDE just before it was brought out by the UFC.

As for the old PRIDE rules, wasn't the first round 10 minutes? If that is the case, it doesn't explain why Shogun was gassed 2 minutes into the 2nd. Maybe it was just "ring rust"

Who knows, maybe the PRIDE fighters are letting it get to their heads and thinking the UFC is an easier playground? Like I said, if Fedor does well in the UFC, it will prove just how good a fighter he is. Dammit Dana get your act together!

UFC 76 took place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. on Saturday, Sept. 22, and featured Keith Jardine?s upset split-decision victory over Chuck Liddell. Jardine earned $14,000 for the victory, and Liddell earned $500,000 in defeat.

Other top paydays included Mauricio ?Shogun? Rua, who earned $150,000 ? $106,000 more than Forrest Griffin, who submitted him in the third round. Additionally, Lyoto Machida earned $50,000 for a victory over Kazuhiro Nakamura ($20,000).

The total payroll for the event was $954,000 (though 68 percent of it went to Liddell and Rua).

The full amounts included:

Keith Jardine ($14,000) def. Chuck Liddell ($500,000)

Forrest Griffin ($44,000) def. Mauricio ?Shogun? Rua ($150,000)

Jon Fitch ($44,000) def. Diego Sanchez ($22,000)

Lyoto Machida ($50,000) def. Kazuhiro Nakamura ($20,000)

Tyson Griffin ($24,000) def. Thiago Tavares ($9,000)

Rich Clementi ($24,000) def. Anthony Johnson ($5,000)

Jeremy Stephens ($6,000) def. Diego Saraiva ($3,000)

Christian Wellisch ($14,000) def. Scott Junk ($4,000)

Matt Wiman ($16,000) def. Michihiro Omigawa ($5,000)

All of the night?s winning fighters earned 50 percent of their pay to ?show? and an additional 50 percent as ?win bonuses.? (The only exceptions would have been Liddell, who would not have earned a win bonus, and Rua, whose win bonus would have been $50,000.)

Now, the usual disclaimer: the figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes be a substantial portion of a fighter?s income. They also don?t include any bonuses the UFC sometimes pays for Fight of the Night, Knockout of the Night, and Submission of the Night ? which pay $40,000 each ? and other assorted pay-per-view and performance-based bonuses.

In other words, these are simply base salaries reported to the CSAC and do not represent the total amounts earned by each fighter.

LOL at $14k earnt by Jardine.
