David Tennant is to stand down as Doctor Who, after becoming one of the most popular Time Lords in the history of the BBC science fiction show.

Gee I wonder why. He was phenomenal!

He's quitting too early.

Yeah but he doesn't want to end up being type cast and also he is doing very well on stage doing Hamlet.

His facial expressions and overall behavior and attitude just made him the perfect Doctor. Especially since he wanted to be the Doctor since he was little.

^^^^^^^^ - Just look at his expression! You know something good is going on.

David Tennant was a decent doctor - right up there with some of the classics. It'll be a shame to watch him go.

i would be so bold as to say that he is the best docto:p:p but then again, i havent seen the old doctors.

sad though, but 2010 is long way off.

NO!!!!!!!!!!! Tennant was the best Doctor by far! it will be shame to see him go :( still, all good things must come to an end I suppose. Let's hope the 11th Doctor is a worthy replacement...

EDIT: To be fair though, when the new series first started with Christopher Eccleston, I quite liked him and was annoyed when I found out he was leaving after only a season and then his replacement turned out to be a far better Doctor. Perhaps the same will happen again (maybe).

Tennant is a legend of a doctor but I feel with a new doctor brings a whole new feeling to the program, James Nesbitt would be kind of cool...

Being fairly old in actual years I always thought Tom Baker was THE best Doctor ever (possibly due to me actually meeting him and K9 and him sharing his jelly beans/babies).

That was until Tennant came along and I am now afraid that Mr Baker is the #2 all time best.

Shame he is leaving, but he is leaving on top of his game - people will talk about him at the height of his popularity and not in the 'oh when is he leaving' type way.

Shame though, he was spot on.

I think Tennant was responsible for turning on a lot of Americans to Dr. Who. He definitely gave the franchise a much needed shot-in-the arm, especially after the first year's false start.

Here's another vote for James Nesbitt.

Wow... :/ :( Tennant was the best doctor and sure made me watch Doctor Who more frequently. I can't wait for the specials and while sad.. I can't wait to see who's the new doctor and see what '?' to the show. :)

True he will be missed.

However, hopefully moffat might be able to speed up production. ?It takes bloody ages to produce Dr Who and?some of?the scripts seem?rather?corny, hopefully Moffat can?work?some?magic?and pick writers that can write scary stories yet solid in acting and quality.

He was good in his first couple of seasons, but started to irritate me over the last. I still would have wanted to see him in Moffat's Who.

Some of his companions were bad (Freeya was so annoying, Tate was.. okay. But the Doctor and Rose were the best by far.), but I hope he reconsiders and stays for a little longer.
