Rudy
I was wondering why my computer is reporting such low temperatures for my CPU. The case sensor says it's at 29C (that sounds right) but the CPU one says 17-18C (that's really low)...... My CPU is an E6750 (2.66 ghz core 2 duo) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/582122-low-cpu-temps/ Share on other sites
myrhymeandreason
Unless it is reporting incorrectly (which would be a problem because of inaccuracy and if it ended up being dangerously hot and not telling you), that should be a good thing. The lower the better, right? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/582122-low-cpu-temps/#findComment-588790105 Share on other sites
Rudy
well that's the problem, im guessing it's incorrect since it's so low.....i am using the heatsink that came with the cpu... The Angry Bunny
Hmm... this might just be me being tired, but that sorta sounds right to me. I mean I've heard nothing but praise for the Core 2's temps, and considering my old AMD Barton is running at a steady 28-30 ish range on a stock cooler, that seems like it'd be acceptable. myrhymeandreason
I am assuming the answer is no, but just to be sure: You haven't changed any hardware at all? What about any programs like Speedfan? When did you notice this? Just randomly, or it has been like that for a while? The Angry Bunny
Hmm... after thinking about it a bit longer it does seem a lil odd... try download motherboard monitor and see what it says... The case sensor says it's at 29C (that sounds right) but the CPU one says 17-18C (that's really low)......My CPU is an E6750 (2.66 ghz core 2 duo) Depending on what software you are using, it could be reading it wrong (due to the 85C vs. 100C TJunction issue). Most likely you need to add 15C to each of the core temps which would give you around 33C which is reasonable considering your case temp is 29C. Rudy
well i was getting the reading from the bios....i felt the heatsink and it does feel really cool im installing Motherboard monitor..... edit: won't run on Vista x64..... Rudy
got SpeedFan to run....shows core0 and core1 running idle at 20-22C and i tried to run super pi (i know it's outdated) and the max i got was 30-31C.....i mean i knew the core 2 duo were cool but this is REALLY cool....sounds fishy to me... but then when i put my hand at the back of the computer the air coming out is really cool (can't check the heatsink because the case is closed) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/582122-low-cpu-temps/#findComment-588790139 Share on other sites

capr
i have liquid cooling on a e6600 and my temp is around 31-33 when it's just sitting there... so I really don't think you are getting the right temps. or my liquid cooling just sucks... dr.bisho
lucky you, did you try to use another cpu on that mother board, or try another motherboard on the same system, that will make you certain of whats wrong, but i suggest , your mother board is acting stupid :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/582122-low-cpu-temps/#findComment-588791064 Share on other sites
Popcorned1
That's really strange (especially on the stock air cooler) and wouldn't trust those fully until you know for sure all your hardware is working properly. If it is right. I wouldn't moan too much, you'd be able to get some insane overclocks on that thing. Rudy
here's a screenshot of Core temp....same thing as Speedfan was giving me.....idle at 20-22 and full load in the low 30s.....im glad i have a really cool cpu but im kinda scared the reading is wrong.......but core temp says in the readme that it uses the temperature from the cpu itself.....im kinda confused Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/582122-low-cpu-temps/#findComment-588791272 Share on other sites
The Angry Bunny
I was thinking of this... You obviously have one of the latest core 2 models to come out, so could that be what it is? Maybe they enhanced the temp of the procs even more with this model. Just a thought. You should look at intel's websites and look up the datasheet on the new intel procs it might shed some light. Rule of thumb, lower voltage=lower temps because P=I*V, P is power in watts(Joules/sec), I is current (Amps), and V is voltage. Rudy
updated the bios and in the bios it now reads about 30C idle....sounds more like it....still low :p but then the air coming out the back of the computer is really cool Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/582122-low-cpu-temps/#findComment-588794821 Share on other sites
