obiwong
While many considered the LCD issues plaguing some iPod Touch units a hardware issue, Apple just released a firmware update for the device that appears to fix the problem. That's the issue many Touch owners are dealing with at the MacRumors forums right now, it APPEARS to fix the problem. Some forum members speculate that the update, which is a huge 150 MB, alters the contrast and brightness settings of the LCD screen. Others simply believe that the incorrect application of the LCD coating theory was just plain wrong, but that raises the question: Why did Apple admit to shipping faulty units if it could've asked users to wait for an update to fix the issue? No one can answer that question, but one thing's certain: the update significantly fixes, at least to a degree, the LCD issue. source: http://tech.blorge.com/Structure:%20/2007/...xes-lcd-issues/ and i was just thinking about picking one up today.... Quillz
I had originally thought it to be a hardware defect, but this is certainly good news. Slimy
Odd that it wasn't a hardware issue. I mean, it didn't affect everyone so I can't see how firmware would fix it :s Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/590709-ipod-touch-firmware-update-fixes-lcd-issues/#findComment-588882720 Share on other sites
Simon Veteran Posted September 29, 2007 Veteran Share Posted September 29, 2007 Odd that it wasn't a hardware issue. I mean, it didn't affect everyone so I can't see how firmware would fix it :s Maybe some shipped with the wrong firmware, or maybe the parts were different. Something slipped under the radar, and it was probably just a difference between one half of the Touches and the other.
