Sethos
What's your problem kid!?I actually like far cry, but I don't want to play a different version of it. Same island, same enemies... So, get over yourself. If you like it, well that's nice for you. If you helped in the making of it, well get some fresh ideas next time. Relax, "Kid". Same Island? What are you on about, It's an editor generated Island, so the only similarity is the open environment ... But yeah, we'd rather want a plain shooter with 2D backdrop! And the enemies, about 60% of all shooters today have human enemies with guns?! But you are right on both points, only Far Cry had these features ... Get over yourself and I'll leave you alone now
ZombieFly
XPVista is a hog, sorry to say. like i've already said, xp is a much better option for crysis (from ~17fps to ~30fps)
Sethos
Well, not if you wanna use DirectX 10 :p
Danrarbc
There's no explicit DX9 or DX10 setting in the configuration screens. However, there are plenty of config files that the game reads settings from so it may be buried in one of those. If you right click the shortcut in the games explorer you can start either dx9 or dx10 ;)
Sethos
If you right click the shortcut in the games explorer you can start either dx9 or dx10 ;) Nice! But i gotta ask - Can anyone tell me anywhere in the Demo, where i might find a place to compare DirectX 9 & 10? Because right now, i just can't justify having Vista install for such a performance hit. Turning down post-processing seems to remove all those great lightning effects We've seen touted as "DirectX 10", so i keep saying to myself, what's the point in me having DirectX 10? Might as well go back to XP ... Crysis is the only reason why i own & use Vista today ...
Danrarbc
Well the shortcuts use the arguments -DX9 and -DX10, so you could add those to the timedemo batch files for speed testing.
Sethos
Well, wanted to compare visuals ... Since i can pretty much already tell DirectX 9 is faster, yet looks the same.

Elliot B.
Well, wanted to compare visuals ... Since i can pretty much already tell DirectX 9 is faster, yet looks the same. There is a lot of pop-up (LOD) in DX9 mode, even with everything set to high.

SIE
like i've already said, xp is a much better option for crysis (from ~17fps to ~30fps) The diffrence isn't between Vista and XP, it's the diffrence between directx 9 and 10.. Turn of desktop composition or disable aero and Vista is pretty much on par with XP for gaming.

Since DWM disables when your in games anyway, it shouldn't have any impact of gaming performance.
SIE
or just force DX9 mode. Since DWM disables when your in games anyway, it shouldn't have any impact of gaming performance. Running in dx9 mode will give similar performance to XP yes, but i wasn't just talking about crysis, turning of desktop composition or or running Vista's basic theme will give you a bit of extra performance in most games, especially in opengl, i don't know why because as you said it suppose to disable when running full screen games. Don't have vista on here anymore though (as it just doesn't run smooth enough on my 4 year old pc).

I agree, in that i feel it's like a farcry 2 if you like, having said that i still think it's the best game played. I loved Farcry, so i seriously love this! Just to add to how it runs, on these specs; C2D E6420 X1950XT 256mb 2GB RAM 10K Raptor It runs really smoothly on medium settings, so i dropped the post processing and raised textures and a few others to high, still smooth. Veng3ance
Hey guys, just to inform you that those new Beta drivers released by nvidia work like a charm, I found the Vista version of 169.01 at www.gamershell.com There is also a "november DX10 update" to do which may increase performance. I am running Windows Vista 32bit 2x 8800GTX in SLi 4GB 800MHz RAM (Yah I know techies, I need 64bit lol) Q6600 Intel Core 2 Quad @ 3.00GHz I run all my games @ 1440 x 900, native res for my monitor. I can run Crysis at maxed out settings (yes, including max post proccessing) except AA, I kept that off for now, It runs at approx. 20 - 25 FPS Not bad yeah? With PP on medium it's 30 - 40FPS Starting to look good now :p

hekkyUK
I got the demo but how do I access the Sandbox 2 editor? Crytek?s Sandbox2 ?What you see is what you play? level editor comes free with Crysis. To install the editor browse to the "\Sandbox2 Installer" folder using Windows Explorer, and run the "CryEngine 2 Sandbox" installer. In order to install and use the Crysis® Sandbox Editor on Windows Vista it is necessary to disable User Account Control (UAC). To disable UAC, follow these steps: 1) Go to Start \ Control Panel \ User Accounts 2) Click the "Turn user account control on or off" option 3) Click continue on the UAC popup 4) Uncheck the box next to "Use user account control (UAC) to help protect my computer" 5) Click OK
xendrome
Yea this doesn't appear to be an XP vs Vista issue, it's more of a DX9 vs DX10 issue.. Also however keep in mind if you run with the -DX9 switch, you can also only set your settings to HIGH, not ULTRA HIGH. However I am seeing no difference in the time demos with -DX9 switch, running at an average of 24FPS on both timedemos, on DX9 and DX10.
