sn00pie
HD DVD players for $99 is going to be a definite surprise. That's DIRT cheap, that could easily be the key for HD DVD to take the lead in the "war". I doubt Sony will keep quiet, they'll probably end up cutting prices and losing money but they will surely do something. For $99 I can see alot of PS3 owners snapping them up.

kak
I wonder what the loss per player is on those. I remember a few years ago good DVD players still costing $100-$150. Either way, I'm half tempted to go pick one up. I'm interested to see what the BDA will do and try to offset this. They did a relatively good job to keep Blu on top during the Transformers release. Boz
they got walmart backing them now, blu ray is in trouble... There is also THIS LATEST RUMOUR from the past hour: from Blu-Ray forums: I'm not so sure Blu will win. As of 13 minutes ago, Warner is no longer part of the BDA Still looking to see what's going on.. it has been known that Warner Brother's BDA membership expires tonight midnight.. they most likely did not extend it .. but I guess we won't hear anything official (confirmation or debunk) by tomorrow morning. Boz
^^^Now that would be interesting...-Spenser It's not really too hard to try to figure out what happened. This Walmart deal with Toshiba has been brewing since the rumoured 2 million order of HD DVD players a while back. Remember? Now since Paramount went HD DVD.. Warner most likely talked to Toshiba and Toshiba asked them to go HD DVD exclusive. Warner came back and said, show us good hardware sales and we are in.. Toshiba approached Walmart and said, we'll work with you to offer $99 HD DVD players from us and give you exclusive support to push HD. Walmart said yes, Toshiba went back to Warner to tell them that Walmart is behind them completely along side Sears and a a few other retailers, Transformers showed huge success and Warner said ok. The rest is just timing.

Sheppard
I'm pretty sure we can mark the beginning of the end for Blu-Ray. The way things are happening right now with all crazy retailer support for this holiday season, this is exactly what was the case with VHS and DVD. Wally came out with crazy price, it has been adopted. The only thing missing is Warner right now and it's pretty much done. Whats with the scaremongering and FUD, how about we wait and see before you with your OBVIOUS bias start proclaiming the winner.

I'm just thinking out loud. But it seems like a logical thing that might've happened. Take a look at this article from April and tell me that the deal wasn't made in advance.. http://blogs.zdnet.com/carroll/?p=1683 Edited November 1, 2007 by Boz

Mathachew Veteran Posted November 1, 2007 Veteran Share Posted November 1, 2007 Talk about desperately trying to scramble out of a hole giving away 7 movies. Please explain to me how this is any different than the five Blu-Ray movies that were being given away when one purchased a Blu-Ray player? If I'm not mistaken, this was done first with Blu-Ray movies.
