AndreasV
I did. The app fails to load when expired. The 'this might explorer.exe' means that this application is a 'beta-release' which runs inside explorer. If desktopFx crashes, explorer.exe crashes also. jtherrien
What exactly is the problem with text-rendering? Got a screenshot? Here you go. The text (on the desktop) is like this in the photo slideshow and underwater plugins, but not with the desktop scribbler. AndreasV
I'll investigate the issue. In the meantime, I've got Video Rendering working - done pretty quickly: Install the DLL with regsvr32'ing it: http://mpj.tomaatnet.nl/DesktopEffectVideo.dll (the new file is included in the installer). WooSH
i actually have a really cool effect, that ive been waiting to put to use, but i wanted to make it a stand alone program. ofcourse it may not gain that much popularity due to it being only effect. hit me up, if you want to include this in your app. Also, are you making this a paid program? that would definitely suck. AndreasV
AndreasV,Any progress on the icon/text resolution problem? I can give you more information about my system if you need. Videocard specs would be nice :) i actually have a really cool effect, that ive been waiting to put to use, but i wanted to make it a stand alone program. ofcourse it may not gain that much popularity due to it being only effect. hit me up, if you want to include this in your app. Also, are you making this a paid program? that would definitely suck. There is an architecture for quickly coding your own effects, if you are familiar with writing code, just say so and I publish the info about it. Paid -> nothing has been decided yet. jtherrien
Videocard specs would be nice :) I'm running two screens via 2xDVI with a Geforce 7600GT (256mb). I'm using the drivers which come with Vista (NVIDIA 97.46), as the newest NVIDIA drivers absolutely suck for performance within the Vista GUI for multiple monitors. jtherrien
Also, I tried the program on my notebook, which has an ATI card using the Catalyst 7.10 drivers, and it worked fine with no distortion. I noticed a post on the first page which mentioned the distortion as well: "- Desktop icon's text looks garbled." Are you using a non-NVIDIA video card? AndreasV
I'll try to do a test on an NVIDIA setup. Guest Dan C
Whenever I try the snow or trail desktop effect, the wallpaper turns into as shown in screenshot below. nero78
I just installed it and don't have the snow effect. Just the fire. Another thing is that the fire effect is to long. Should be able to configure it and choose the duration yourself :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/600139-desktop-effects/page/2/#findComment-588999114 Share on other sites
AndreasV
Updated the installer - wallpaper background should be fixed now; Snow should work, fire is different. Linkinfamous
Ok. This is really, really cool. Are you/When are you going to release some information of developing our own plugins? I'd like to try out a few things, it seems very cool. Also, I don't have a "Fire" effect listed. AndreasV
There's an extra effect now included that automatically fades the wallpaper whenever it has changed - no matter by which app. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/600139-desktop-effects/page/2/#findComment-589000144 Share on other sites
ForXy
Nice little app, but... Yesterday all was normal. I used this application, and its snow effect. When I opened my computer today, I couldn't use the right click on desktop. Then, I unistalled Desktop Effects and rebooted. Didn't work and I came here. I saw the newer installer, downloaded it and rebooted. Didn't work... Unistalled it and rebooted. Still I couldn't use the right click on desktop. So, here I am, whining. Somebody, please help me! Edit: And also, I can't set any images as desktop wallpaper from Firefox or IE. Edit2: I see the new wallpaper, when I end explorer.exe and start it again... AndreasV
Ultimate measure: kill explorer.exe, run cmd and delete or rename AveDesktopEffects.dll . ForXy
Ultimate measure: kill explorer.exe, run cmd and delete or rename AveDesktopEffects.dll . That helped. Uninstaller doesn't delete all files from C:\Program Files\DesktopEffects? Linkinfamous
Just thought I'd throw this out there. It's not done, and will probably crash explorer, or do something similarly horrible, but it's pretty neat nonetheless. It's sort of a clone of Stardock's Ovals dream (Just not as nice, as I'm new to d3d.).. Two versions are offered. One changes your aero theme color with the background (Which is actually pretty slick.) The other does not. Don't install both at the same time. Config screen and more will come when I get a chance. Also, you'll need the vc++ 2008 runtimes. MS doesn't have them up for download yet, so they're at http://personal.stevens.edu/~ddayon/vcredist_x86.exe http://personal.stevens.edu/~ddayon/Circley.zip Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/600139-desktop-effects/page/2/#findComment-589007165 Share on other sites
