Let's face reality folks. Vista was not what we expected it to be. The OS needs a lot of work. It has a lot of bugs, the system requirements are simply ridiculous and abusive. You basically need a new PC to run the darn thing. Trying to find things in Vista takes forever. XP is way faster and easier to use than Vista. Why do you think Microsoft is releasing Windows 7 in 2010 instead of 2013 or 2014? (remember Windows ME?) They know they messed up big time and they know most people are not happy with Vista, especially companies such as Acer and Dell. I have tried many times to upgrade to Vista but I seem to keep going back to XP everytime just because I can't find anything on Vista and I simply hate the way it runs...slow.

Lets face it, there is an uninformed opinion from someone who never gave it a chance.

- XP had alot of bugs and quite honestly, no bug is stopping me from using it productively day in day out

- You can go back to the classic theme if your computer isn't up to the task. Its quite funny really that my crappy Acer laptop runs it with aero on just fine.

- You don't need a new pc to run it, but even if that was the case whats the problem? Should technology just stop so you have nothing to whine about? Geez.

- Trying to find things in Vista takes forever? That to me is proof positive that you haven't even used it. Christ.

- Anyone who compares ME to Vista doesn't clearly understand the huge differences in circumstances and the products.

You != The world. For some of us, software incompatibilities or hardware problems can be a show stopper. Most of my software from 2k worked fine in XP - however now in Vista this is not true anymore.

This, however, does not fix the fact that Vista is butt ugly and even when fine tuned (Such as removing the extra padding in Windows) it still takes too much space and looks like baby vomit.

Apple managed to make Leopard run BETTER than previous versions and managed to add more "candy" as well. Just because you're adding more features doesn't mean the system slows down to a halt.

In a way true - Vista introduced lots of new things. Unfortunately they're not much use and tend to get in the way of working. However, the amount of issues I've faced with Vista implementation in businesses is directly comparable to Windows ME - they both share one thing in common: A lot of people despise them - and I'm not talking about your average Joe the shoesalesman who doesn't have a clue what the computer is running but hardcore long time computer vets who've seen every Windows migration so far, from the horrible 1 to 3.1/3.11WfW (which make dove scry) and 95/98 to 2k transitions.

And let's not forget something - computers are meant to make things easier, faster and simpler. Vista does pretty much everything the opposite.

Many Mac users are complaining about many of the same complaints that are being said about Vista.

Honestly, I guarantee there was this much initial resentment for XP when it first came out, but back in 2001, there still weren't many voices on the Internet. But once Vista got released earlier this year, we had blogs, YouTube, etc. What we are still seeing are an extreme minority that is very vocal. The majority of Vista users no doubt have no issues with it. And this will be proven come 2009 when Windows 7 is released. We will see all these "Vista is fine, keep it going!" campaigns.

This has happened with every single release of Windows, and even Mac OS X. (There are so many "downgrade stories" of people going back to Tiger.

Instead of posting articles about Vista being all bad and horrible because of the security and restrictions, why not create and post a tutorial to make Vista more XP-like? It's entirely possible to do (I've done it). Here, I'll do it for you...

1) Enable and use the administrator account.

2) Disable User Account Control completely.

3) Edit the settings of folder views and apply it to all folders (making icons smaller by holding CTRL and using the scroll wheel).

4) Disable Windows Aero (optional, but helps).

5) Tweak and disable/set to manual unneeded services.

There you go, Windows Vista acting more Windows XP-like. It'll run programs like XP can, and maybe, just maybe without encountering problems because of UAC and restricted permissions. Tada, it's quite nice this way other than the old way. Vista isn't that bad when you customize it for yourself. Shame Microsoft didn't allow it to be this way. =\

Where are those stories about OS X? :laugh: There are plenty of people who have problems with newer operating systems, but the backlash is not even comparable to Vista.

You don't hear many negative stories about Apple simply because most people don't seem to think that posting said story is worth dealing with the deluge of rabid backlash they'll recieve.

The question though was where's the stories of users switching back to Tiger? Ratio wise, I highly DOUBT you'll come close to the amount of users who either want to or actually have switched back to XP. Furthermore, look at Tiger's discussion, http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=160, over 7000 threads there. Big deal, that doesn't mean every single user wants to switch back to Panther. It just means people are having issues, some could be minor some could be huge some could be just user error. Showing me a forum of potential problems does prove there's this HUGE backlash of users wanting to switch back to Tiger.

Even if there were, you'd never hear about it. The Mac community does a tidy job of censoring itself.

Oh come on. I even complained loudly about Leopard and the Graphics issues I were having when Leopard first came out. It actually turned out to be a Firmware issue, but I still complained. Read through this. There's plenty of people complaining, but people aren't switching back because there aren't major issues like what Vista users would want people to think. Vista has major issues, Leopard (despite what Vista users would like to see happen) doesn't have those major issues.

OS X doesn't have the annoying UAC, it has Cover Flow built into the Finder, has a beautiful new UI, Time Machine (which is extremely user friendly and has a nice UI unlike Shadow Copy). OS X just works, Vista does not.

coming from a tester imo, vista is great and fast in the "just using it" sense though it could be alot better. but when it comes down to things like gaming and other more intense things its lacking badly i do not expect it to get any better. i would say vista is fine for eye candy and browsing the web watching movies listening to music and checking your emails, anything beyond that it and it turns to rubbish. I prefer windows XP because it doesn't give you this half the cake quality performance. maybe it's better for brand spanking new top of the line hardware but i wouldn't expect much from it though i'll have to wait and see once upgrade time comes around.

You have to admit it, whether or not you like Vista, MS did a great thing with SP2 for XP and really made it an operating system to be proud of. I'm hoping Vista matures as finely as XP did. Then again, XP had a lot of time and MS needed to kick it up because of delays in Vista's development.

if cnet gave vista this title solely on the lack of adoption, they are sadly mistaken (or they were paid under the table to make this claim)

You don't have to pay anyone to find many shortcomings with Vista, it just isn't that great.

When you know how to use a computer, Vista "just works," as well.

Right :laugh: Are you insinuating something there? I know computers, I've been in the IT field for years now. Vista doesn't work, not the way it should, but I'm tired of this argument, it bores me now. I've said my peace about the POS that Vista is.
