Raise your hand if you're tired of negative Vista articles

vista is cool

just make sure you try it out on a decent pc

mostly people dislike vista cause they are somewhat proud to keep it oldschool or just secretly cryin over their 1year old pc, which s-cks @vista

i no longer read articles documenting what's broken/what sucks in vista, because i know from first hand experiance that they are all correct and i don't need people telling me what i already know.

I have tried vista for 6 months + and i cant take it any more, for the last time it has decided to randomly change my folder views (why on earth would i want to view photos in a music view? photos dont have play times or albums!)

Once i switch back i will still continue to ignore all vista articles until i read more than 1 title saying "oh, looks like vista works properly now"

Its symbolic of reporting as a whole now, not just Vista. There's no more discussion and weighing up of pros and cons just continuous negativity and scaremongering. When was the last time you saw a major news story that was rational, well argued and un-sensationalised.

It's a well known fact that there are three easy ways to get lots of traffic to your site:

* Write an article saying Vista sucks

* Write an article saying piracy is good and/or copy protection is evil

* Write an article saying Apple products are better than anything else

You don't need to use any facts or statistics, or any logic. Just write whatever comes out your backside as long as it has one of the themes above, and don't forget to give it a catchy misleading title. The large number of stupid people on the internet will do the rest for you... instant traffic.

wrong forum buddy

Yup. This is a "soapbox" rant, totally ignoring sub-topic rule #4 about needing a source (as a BPN item)

As for negative Vista articles, well those are just the impressions of the reviewers. Surely Vista isn't perfect for everyone on every hardware platform out there, and there are some valid complaints.

I've seen countless of negative Linux articles on how it is "not ready" and yadda-yadda. But, as long as it suits me fine, I don't get heartburn enough to post a "raise your hands" thread.

My advice to those tired... Let it go. It isn't worth getting frustrated over. Posting a thread like this may be a good release for some to get their frustrations off their shoulders though.

There are positive aspects and negative ones. Read. Become more rounded. Go on with life, happy with your OS selection, whether it is Vista, XP, OSX, Linux or other. It's amazing how much Vista has split the Windows users and pitted them against each other.

Vista does get a little silly with forgetting folder settings, but this isn't new. That is something that IMHO is a little bit of an improvement over XP. I hated that XP would seem to just never remember folder settings unless you set them 3 or 4 times... Like its hate for showing the status bar in folders!

Overall, for me at least, Vista is a far better OS than XP ever was. 98%+ of my issues are related to drivers with the biggest culprit being Nvidia...

I think we need a quality level for articles posted on Neowin, and tech sites in general, moreso than just a stopping of the anti-Vista articles. There are some negatives to Vista that need press coverage to get MS and people to really take notice, but a lot is lost in the F.U.D. people are shoving out like they get paid to do it...

It is fine to post negative things about Vista, but back them up with solid facts... The same should be true for positive Vista sentiment...

So, for me, I'm just sick and tired of biased unfounded, in facts, articles about technology in general... And people just need to use what works! But that would be too much to ask when people buy stuff on how "cool" they will be with others first...

I know from my own and others personal experience that Vista is actually really great to use and a good step forward! I dont bother reading all these "lets bash Vista/Microsoft" posts anymore!!

If Vista sucks people should be able to speak up about it, and M$ has to eat it. There the ones that put out that #$#% and are still trying to con us into buying the thing. It serves as a lesson to them so they wont pull that again on the next version. Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of Microsoft's work and know that OS's have bumppy starts but vista really does suck and they might even be able to turn it around buy fixing most of the problems but that doesn't make it a good OS, it just makes it a bad one that got re-done after release.

I'm using Vista Business on a 2+ year old HP TC4200 Tablet PC and I absolutely love it! The Tablet PC experience with Vista far surpasses that of XP, and honestly, my TC4200 feels faster than my XP Tablet Edition ever did.

I don't have the Aero interface, but that's all fluff anyway. I don't miss it, but it would be nice to have.

+1 for the "I'm tired of negative Vista articles."

Although I am an Ubuntu user, I am sick and tired of hearing bashing everytime Microsoft releases an OS as with time, that OS will become the most beloved one (like XP now).

Give these companies a break. Whether they make expensive universal OS (like Microsoft), make free community supported OS (like Ubuntu), or make an OS that can only be sold as pre-installed on certain hardware (OSX), all these companies are providing VARIETY (something we will never value until we miss it).

Therefore, please let each excel in their own way and let the consumer choose what suites them best. I can compile a huge list of Ubuntu and OSX benefits, and I bet I can compile an even bigger list of Vista's benefits (yes, I am an Ubuntu user and I am proud of it).

I have to agree with many of you in this discussion -- there's nothing wrong with Vista and it's hardly a failure.

I've had Vista since it came out. I've never seen a blue screen. Never seen a crash. I've yet to encounter any incompatible hardware. I had one, and only one, program that wouldn't work correctly under Vista. And the annoying prompts to install programs? You can disable that!

It's true that many businesses have yet to adopt it. But you know what? Many companies are just finishing their migration to XP, which came out in 2002. Businesses rarely jump on board when a new product comes out.

The vast majority of people giving Vista bad reviews either haven't used it or didn't do their homework before upgrading. If you have hardware or software that is not Vista compatible, you should NOT upgrade until updates are available! It's not rocket science.

The only valid complaint, in my opinion, is performance. It's true, Vista isn't as zippy as XP. It takes a long time to start, and a long time to shut down. But once running, performance is fine.

I have been using Vista since January and I can't believe people find it better than XP. No friggin' way *shakes head*

+1

I installed Vista on my PC at home and worked with it for a couple of months. Eventually I switched back to XP not because I hated Vista but I was sick of all the work arounds I had to do because of bad drivers (my video, sound and wireless cards are all pretty old). This did not taint my opinion of Vista and I still use it at work.

At this point I just stopped reading these articles because I have already formed my opinion.

love vista never had any problems at all with it. including drivers, older software. everythin works perfect never crashed on me or froze on me, never got the blue screen. i got vista and xp on dual boot, and i never log on to xp anymore i just love vista. its funny that some people in one of my classes are talkin crap about vista and how they cant get anything to work on it. so they hate it. the same software i tried and it works fine on my pc. i think its just stupid people that hate on VISTA. they dont like how its different from XP so they bash on it. i dont care cuz vista is the best OS that ms has put out at least to me it is

there will be bickering from people as long as DirectX 10 remains only for Vista....

Aero is nice and all, and to be truthfully honest, resources is not the problem for me. The problem is that Vista is very hard to work with, even for a computer guru as myself. When you need to use google to find even the simplist of settings in the control panel, then that is a problem. Now if SP1 drastically reorganizes all of Vista's settings, then I'll reconsider.

And you, sir, have discovered the secret of Neowin. Well done.

i'm surprised Steven Parker posted this on the frontpage ... mr anti-vista himself..

It must kill Neobond to hate the OS he uses. He is so Anti-Vista that he has it on his PC.

I guess you can call me Mr. Anti-Linux, by that logic.

Vista has its flaws, as any OS does. The problem is that the beta got leaked to "joe public". teenage kids with the "I will upgrade top this beta because its new and thus makes me cool". All these people not knowing how the Beta testing system is meant to work, put out a negative feeling from the start.

That's the point. That's what I've been thinking for months.

Vista was negativated before its release, since it was beta software. These kids have to learn that BETA SOFTWARE is not to be used as primarly. Else the beta would go gold and the other part'd be considered updates.

"Raise your hand if you're tired of hearing about the Iraq war".

A five-year-old knows Iraq war is far more important than any software. They're killing for petroleum. It's loss of humanity ignoring this fact and letting them do it if you are American.

People say French people are too irritated with everything in politics, but if it was in France they'd have already put down the ******* who created this senseless war. This is for other topic anyway...
