roadgeek9
Even though this happened waaaaayyyyy at the beginning of the season, I feel this is somewhat interesting to talk about. The Patriots are undefeated so far, and probably will not be. But, if they are undefeated, will the camera scam with the Jets affect them? Will it create the same effect of which Barry Bonds created? Mathachew Veteran Posted December 6, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 6, 2007 I don't think it'll affect it anymore than it already has. The Jets game was the first game, and look what they've done since then. They've earned their 12-0 record, despite what happened in the past. Aaron Veteran Posted December 6, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 6, 2007 Personally, I think they should have been forced to forfeit that game. They were caught cheating in the game, to me that taints the results and you can no longer say that it did or did not have a bearing on the outcome. L3thal Veteran Posted December 6, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 6, 2007 I agree with Aaron. They blatantly cheated in that game and they "paid" for it by losing a few draft picks (big whoop). There will always be a suspicion following New England after that incident. They were caught cheating in the game, to me that taints the results and you can no longer say that it did or did not have a bearing on the outcome. Which is why they are going to beat down the Jets like 90 - 10 in a couple weeks, and then you can't argue anything. The 'scandal' doesn't taint this season, because it was the first game. However, it can cast some doubt on previous seasons, including the other Super Bowls they have won. You just can't make the argument it affects THIS season, because they are being closely watched now after they were caught. And by the way, this isn't an incident that is unparalleled. Teams have always done things like flooding the field to slow down an opponent, and sign stealing has always been a part of sports. Look into the recent book about the 'shot heard round the world' and the sign stealing that occurred there. They never forfeit games over that, and that was said to be going on for MONTHS of the season. I am Reid
Yeah, I was talking about to someone about this last week. It seems like we are supposed to just look the other way on this one, kinda like how we do with Shawne Merriman. The never have been found guilty of cheating, just guilty of "practices that could've lead to cheat" but the league never found any strong evidence that the tapes gave any advantage to the Patriots. Still, it was in the first quarter, in the first game. 12 weeks later and they have been for the most of the season OBLITERATING the league. Now, when you get caught in front of the nation and you know yourself guilty you apologize. Heck, even you drag yourself with shame away from it. In the other hand, if you know you are innocent and that you are beign threated unfairly then you would want to make a statement. Guess what the Pats have been doing. And, about the original question, I hope this wont affect them. Remember Brett Favre? everything has been forgiven and forgotten now. Sounds to me like losing draft picks and a half a million in fines means that the league thought it was a pretty big time offense. Also, what about Favre? I remember he battled personal demons but I don't recall anything about his sportsmanship. Thats nothing when you are making hundreds of millions of dollars on the team. No idea what hes talking about with Favre, though. Guest
With the way things stand, they won't even have lost a draft pick. I'm pretty sure they picked up a 1st round draft pick in the Moss trade. shakey
eh, i say once caught cheating, you should be forced to forfeit the season. If you cant play fair, you dont play at all. Whos to say their undefeated record isnt because they have learned most of the other teams defensive and offensive signs? im pretty sure being 1 step ahead of the other team in football is the best way to really win. Of course, i dont really watch pro ball that much, due to how it has been turning out lately. Matrix XII
I don't even really think what the Pats did was a real scandal anyways, this kind of thing has been going on for years in sports, hell some teams in the NFL are probably doing it on a weekly basis, just not getting caught. The Pats are in a league of their own and whatever anyone thinks about their cheating, it doesn't matter because they've won almost every game by a huge spread. I believe they were doing this partly because they wanted to show the league and everyone that they are capable of blowing other teams out without their so called 'scandal'. roadgeek9
My dad has a friend in Pittsburgh who is a Steelers fan, and my dad and I are Patriots fans (well, we also both live in CT), and he told his friend that he doesn't have to worry about the Steelers losing - because they will. IlliniPi
Unless Willie Parker runs for 150+, I don't see the Steelers coming out on top. +StevoFC MVC Posted December 7, 2007 MVC Share Posted December 7, 2007 Ok...first off the Pats get San Fran's 1st round draft pick i think, which will most likely be in the top 5. 2nd, I am from Pittsburgh and even I admit the Steelers are so overrated it's not even funny. bigl523
I'm a long time Pats fan and I've been getting worried about them after the past few weeks. Needless to say I don't believe Sunday's game is going to be a blowout, they'll probably end up pulling a FG out of their asses within the last minute of the game to win. Aaron Veteran Posted December 8, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 8, 2007 I still think that since the organization (i.e., the management) was caught cheating, as opposed to a single player, that the game itself ought to have been forfeited.
