generalt
I'm thinking about buying myself a ps3 for christmas, but I'm a little hesitant to spend so much money on something that is too much like the ps2. My ps2, 7 years old now, puts nice, clear indentions into every disk I put in. It is completely useless now (and so are all of my games). Has anyone had problems with ps3 scratching disks? Janitor
Are you getting confused between the XBOX360 and the PS3? I've never heard of a PS3 doing it Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/605544-does-ps3-scratch-disks-like-ps2/#findComment-589044289 Share on other sites
L3thal Veteran Posted December 8, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 8, 2007 Nothing here either. The discs are as new as when I first got them. xploit1030
I never heard of the PS2 doing that much less the PS3. I've had both since their respective launches and had no problems (especially what you describe) with either. So I guess I'm not much of a help to answer your question. Sounds like most people haven't had any problems, so that makes me feel better about buying one. soniqstylz
^^^ is that because of scratched discs, or bad laser? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/605544-does-ps3-scratch-disks-like-ps2/#findComment-589044444 Share on other sites
abecedarian paradoxious
I've got a 5 year old PS2 and it's never put a scratch on a disc. However, I've had a disc or two left in the PS2 end up with burnt tracks because the disc was left in it, on pause, for too long- it seems that the ps2 laser was able to alter the disc substrate since it was left reading the same track over and over, but it has never scratched the disc. DPyro
The Blu-ray discs are a little more scratch resistant, and the laser can read the discs a lot better if there are scratches....only game I couldn't get to work correctly was TimeSplitters 2 for PS2 and it has a huge smudge on it. I've done some reading on it and it's probably a bad laser... Since I'm getting a PS3 soon, I might just try and open it up and see if I can fix it like this sketchy website I found says to do... whYeNQue
had 2 ps2's, fat and slim, neither ever scratched the games... maybe your ps2 is messed up... call sony to get replacements. havent heard of ps3's doing this... don't open it up... then sony will never take it back. 7 years is a long time to wait and complain about this problem tho. It just started happening gradually over time... I don't think they'd take it back now, though. Whatever warranty it may have had has surely expired by now. I can't believe that nobody has ever heard of the ps2 scratching disks... Didn't they even come out with something that was supposed to hold your ps2 sideways so that it somehow helped it not scratch? Oh well, I'm happy to know that at least my ps3 probably won't scratch it. I probably just messed up my ps2 transporting it somewhere. Xerino
I dont think it scratches disks, when you first fire up and inster a disk into its autoloader, youd think it would from how clunky it sounds going in Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/605544-does-ps3-scratch-disks-like-ps2/#findComment-589063850 Share on other sites
Digitalx
my ps3 doesn't scratch my disks, i've had mine since march launch and all 3 of my game disks look brand new except for maybe a finger print from taking in and out but they come off with little micro fibre cloth easy.
