iMac Display Colors are off

Recommended Posts

I just booted into Mac OS X and it seems like the colors are off. There's this brown/yellowish haze that makes white not truly white anymore. To be honest I can't tell for sure if it's just my imagination acting up. :/

Regardless, are there some preference files I can Trash to reset the color calibration to the iMac defaults to be sure? Thanks.

Try the different colour profiles in System Preferences > Display?

Could be burn-in on the LCD, do you have a still-image screensaver?

This morning everything was fine. I doubt any form of burn-in can happen while the machine is turned off.

This will sound dumb, but have you restarted it? Sometimes mine's colors get messed up and a restart returns them to normal.

Actually, it doesn't sound dumb at all. I remember having a similar problem once with my eMac and a restart fixed it. This time however it doesn't seem to make a difference:/:/

Do you dual-boot your Mac with Windows? Occasionally on my MBP I get graphics corruption (looks like the whole graphic engine is fried - all colours reversed). It only seems to happen when shifting out of Windows though. Only way to remedy it is to zap the old P-RAM twice (wait for two restart chimes) then boot into OSX.

Think your problem sounds a little different though. Have you tried running the colour profiles First Aid app?

Call up your local Apple store, see what they can do for you.

Radish?

They'll tell me to pack the iMac up and bring it to them. Not going to do that, unless it's 99% certain the problem is hardware related, rather than some fluke caused by Mac OS X Leopard.

Oh and no, I got rid of Windows Vista a while ago.

Is ColorSync Utility still in your Utilities folder in Leopard. I'm not on a Leopard machine right now so can check. If it is just use that to check the profiles for corruption.

To zap the P-RAM. Restart. Hold down Apple | Option | P | R Your Mac will restart and you will hear the startup chime. Keep holding the keys down and wait for a second chime. Then let go and let your Mac boot.

Hey kraized, thanks man! Resetting the PRAM seems to have fixed the problem. The screen is much brighter again, like it was before. (Y)

No problem. Glad its sorted. :)
