COD4 error

Recommended Posts

mmm. iw3mp.exe is the executable for CoD4 Multiplayer.

I have ideas but theyre too many to all tell them.

Give us at least some data (Such, PC Specs, OS & Version, GFX Card and drivers, DX version) THEN we could help you more efficiently.

ASUS M2N32 SLi mobo

AMD X2 4200+ @ 2.6GHz

BFG 7900GTX OC

2GB DDR2-600 RAM

I'm using the on-board audio device; it's an ADI AD1988B, run by SoundMax drivers (up-to-date).

I heard somewhere that this is an error caused by the sound card...

Odd. The error you're getting is the name of the executeable for the Multiplayer of COD4 (Singleplayer is iw3sp.exe).

I don't think its caused by a driver/sound card issue. You have pretty good hardware as well. Check to see the process is not running in Task Manager, and if it is end it and try again (or try rebooting). If that doens't work, you should try uninstalling the game, deleting all the leftover files in Program Files, clearing your recycle bin, and installing again.

Hope that helps.

pirated versions do not allow online play.
Funny but... it would not make the executable to not work and crash. I don't see why you say that anyway.

I have the same sound card and it's pretty mush one of the best on-board quality (now if it would have a DECENT driver software...)

Now, your OS is?

Navigate to "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare" and check for "iw3mp.exe" is in the folder. It's possible that it could be renamed. If the file is there then reinstall Call of Duty 4. I've done a bit of snooping and I users with this problem say it's caused by an integrated sound card coupled with Windows Vista. I'll look into the issue some more. In the meantime do what I suggested and post back. Good luck. (Y)

I don't think this will work but I've stumbled upon it a few times for it to be pure luck. I read that plugging in a mic may fix the issue. It's worth a try, I guess. :ermm:

EDIT: Click here and try the suggested fixes under "I cannot run iw3mp.exe ..."

I use to get that error. Just Reinstall, clean and completely delete folder out of Program Files, empty recycle, retstart pc, and then install again. Should work.

Now alittle off-topic,

For those of you with a ASUS M2N32 SLI with onboard sound with SoundMax Drivers[Latest] Installed, Can you tell me if your Front Audio ports work fine.

Mainly the MIC. Becuase I have the same MOBO, and my mic i have to SHOVE IT IN MY MOUTH and SCREAM and it picks up barely..... THis is all in the front Mic Port. But in the back, it picks up. But in the back, what it tends to do is, Randomly, my SoundMax program will SCREW UP and my mic volume would hit FULL, without me speaking into it. SO now, my BAR is FULL, and the bar next to it, with the bubbles that light up when you talk, are FULL and all the other side hear is static.

Can any of you connect a NON-USB mic in the fornt and tell me if it works.

Thank you very much.

The police are on their way.

Police: Sir I need to see your laptop.

You: For what?

Police: Inspection. Now shut up. *checks* What's this?!

You: *tense*

Police: You need to burn me a copy of this game. Pronto.

As for Sikh..

Um you repeated exactly what I said lol. The only thing you would need to post would be your question, which should be in a new topic..

Yeah, I had to help my friend when he first got this game and had a clean boot of xp. It made me mad because I was sitting there scratching me head and decided to install his sound drivers....ding!...it worked fine. Grrr! But hey, a game fixed is a game fixed :p So yeah, I'd try that, make sure you have all current drivers and patches or try reinstalling then installing the 1.4 patch before trying to boot. Good luck man, it's a great game! My name is [JU}BarnyFizzl hope to see you in there!
