JAbad28
eh, at least this will keep boz quiet. Man, i don't wanna buy a blu ray player :( Me neither, they are quite expensive.. Hm.. Maybe I can quickly sell my HD-DVD Player and 10 movies on ebay for around 300 and get a Blu-Ray sweet! That's if HD-DVD dies.. Joel
last time I check the CD is a pretty successful format That doesn't really have anything to do with Sony, as Philips created it. As I said in the news comments, I don't understand how consumers were both indifferent AND demanding Blu-Ray. And how they waited until after Xmas. Really nice, Warner. However I understand what you mean fully, announce it after xmas as not to affect sales on HD-DVD. My money is on one of the other manufactures of blu-ray players making a proper dual format drive at a reasonable price and cleaning up with HD DVD users like myself, and if HD DVD fails there will probably be huge discounts on movies and box sets :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/611316-warner-bros-to-back-blu-ray-dvd-format-exclusively/page/4/#findComment-589111477 Share on other sites
JAbad28
You're right, if HD-DVD fails there will be huge discounts which will be awesome because for the ones that did get HD-DVD we get some nice movies for dirt cheap. nekrosoft13
not good, if HD-DVD looses, Blu-ray prices will stay high. only reason why BD players cost 500 now, because HD-DVD made competition and drove down the prices. Good thinking! mmm all of sudden my dual drive plans are back-on xD Don't you guys forget that if BD finally gets THE hd momentum, the multiple CEs with BD players will be competing against themselves now. It may take a bit longer now, but first they were united against the enemy, now it's deathmatch !!! Prices will continue to fall as new tech comes out. The prices falling for either format were inevitable. For all we know, Blu players could get discounted for a short term now to deal the final blow to HD-DVD [large adoption + studio exclusive switch]. DeusProto
Blu-ray winning means the continuation of the idiocy of region coding... Won't be paying a dime until BD+ is cracked enabling me to backup my investments and region coding can be bypassed. I import a lot of movies, and I will not put up with region coding BS. Until then... upscaled DVDs will do on my region-free standalone. So you have to wait a bit longer for your films, boo hoo big deal. I also dont see the problem with BD+ you can still rip the Blu-Ray to your HDD and it will still play in PowerDVD and you can still burn it back to a disc and it will play on your standalone player, the only reason you would be against it if you were a pirate wanting to copy Blu-Rays. Elliot B.
It's a good thing too, because Blu-ray is a helluva lot better than HD-DVD. The hardware is overpriced, most of the hardware doesn't support simple features like Picture in Picture and when films come out on both formats, the HD DVD version generally has more extra features (Harry Potter, 300 etc.). Plus, here begins another beginning into region coded films. Remember, Sony p*ss people off easily and regularly. Let's see how long people can ride it out. I am saddened than HD DVD is apparently losing but as long as the format war is over, I can start my venture into HD! The region coding is put into place so studios can protect their investments. It makes perfect sense. christracy
All sides of the format war had agreed it was confusing to consumers and a stumbling block for a potential multibillion-dollar industry. i for one wasn't confused just wanted there to be one format. Still wont be buying one until the prices come down, let's see the industry get that done then maybe it will become the "multibillion dollar industry." And I don't mean those 1080i players but the 1080p players.
