Toxikk Veteran Posted January 22, 2003 Veteran Share Posted January 22, 2003 MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Robert Sylvester Kelly, the singer known as R. Kelly, was arrested in Miami Wednesday on a warrant alleging 12 counts of possession of child pornography, a Miami-Dade police spokesman said. The charges stem from a June search last year of Kelly's home in Davenport, Florida, after the Polk County Sheriff's Office arrested him on a Chicago Police Department warrant alleging possesion of child pornography. During the search, police found 12 digital images depicting sexual activity by a female who was under 18 years of age, according to a Polk County police spokesman. "Three of the 12 photos depicted Mr. Kelly engaged in sexual activity," said Col. Grady Judd. According to Judd, none of the photos appeared to be downloaded from the Internet. The spokesman told WSVN-TV that three photos show Kelly having sex with a female under 18. In the other nine photos, the female is nude. Judd refused to give any further information about the victim in the case. The Polk County Sheriff's office issued an arrest warrant for Kelly last week. An R. Kelly spokesperson released the following statement: "At this point, it looks to us like a classic case of piling on, in which a local jurisdiction tries to make headlines by attaching itself to a celebrity case. As far as we can tell, the charges all relate to R. Kelly's arrest last summer. In other words, there is nothing new here." Kelly was reportedly in Miami working on a music video. According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, his bond has been set at $12,000. Kelly, a Grammy award-winning artist, has been out on bond and awaiting trial on 21 counts of child pornography in Chicago. Those charges stem from a videotape authorities say shows him having sex with a 13-year-old girl. Kelly, 36, has denied that charge. Kelly also has been the focus of at least four lawsuits. Three of the lawsuits accuse him of having sex with underage girls. Two of those three have been settled, but Kelly's lawyers have said they will fight the third. The R&B singer is known for hits ranging from the uplifting "I Believe I Can Fly" to sexually charged material such as "Bump 'n' Grind" and "Feelin' On Yo Booty." http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/Music/01/2...ions/index.html EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW :x Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/61158-r-kelly-sentenced-to-30-years-in-prison/ Share on other sites

He effectively got a life sentence though. because if he gets 30 years that basically puts him about 85 years old when he gets out as his life is pretty much over at that point unless he's got really good genetics and happens to live to say a 100 years old of which is probably not likely as, given the last I knew, they say the average age of death is about 80 (maybe a little less) and he's going 5 years beyond that. so from a 55 years olds point of view... a sentence of any longer than 15 years (so say the age of 70) would be pretty grim. because at 70 you might still have some decent years left to live. but at 75-80 (i.e. a 20-25 year prison sentence), if you are still alive, there is a good chance you are close to the grave unless you got good genetics. p.s. R Kelly's only real hope at this point is to get right with God before he passes from this life into the next as if he loses there, then he's truly doomed and all hope is lost. ThaCrip
@Dick Montage You disagree with me on my general point? ; because what I said is true in that he effectively got a life sentence unless he lives to a really old age. so what's face palm worthy on what I said? but most likely you face palmed me because because I mentioned 'God'. but if you have any half way decent understanding of Jesus Christ, you will realize He's not quick to condemn people as there is always still hope if they repent of their wicked ways no matter how bad they are. so assuming what R Kelly did is true... yeah, someone can end up in hell for that if they fail to repent before death here on earth and persist in that way of living etc. but don't mistaken this as me suggesting R Kelly get off easy, but I am just saying that even when society totally condemns R Kelly with no chance of forgiveness and the like, Jesus Christ will forgive him if he repents. so while R Kelly appears to be doomed in this life, he does not have to be in the next. note: even when Jesus Christ forgives someone of their sins, that does not automatically mean they get off the hook with no penalty (as I suspect you might be thinking is the case) as restitution will either be made in this life or in the next through Purgatory (assuming he does not end up in hell as if you end up in hell your doomed for eternity). what I said here is not me talking crap but basically inline with the teachings of the Catholic church. or another way to look at it... if someone lives with genuine hate/rage in their hearts and never forgives, that will just eat at the person who fails to forgive and just cause more harm. note: I understand the victims of R Kelly obviously won't like him, I get that, as I am not suggesting they like the guy. but if they have a full-on hate of him for the rest of their lives, it's just going to harm themselves further. it's in their interest to forgive and let it go as best as they can (I get they will still have plenty of emotional trauma and all though). I think you get my general point here.
