I've got a socket 754 Motherboard & without having to spend a fortune on a completely new kit I thought I'd upgrade what I can with what I have already. I found out the max cpu for my motherboard is a 3700+ but am having real difficulty finding one! I know they are old now but surely someone has one?! I checked Ebay but it appears that most are engineering samples or just way over priced. I live in the UK. The Sempron 3400+ runs at 2GHz and has 256 KiB L2-Cache. There are two different Athlon 64 3400+ One runs at 2.2GHz with 1MiB L2-Cache. The other runs at 2.4GHz with 512KiB L2-Cache. Both will be fairly faster then your Sempron. Some programs would be faster with the 2.2GHz one because of the L2-Cache but some programs would be faster with the 2.4GHz one. The 3700+ your trying to find is 2.4GHz with 1MiB L2-Cache. So its the faster speed with the more L2 memory. But I remember 3400+ was a lot cheaper then the 3700+. Not sure how much you can find any of them for because they are old now. It might be smarter for you to save up and do a larger upgrade later instead of buying a new CPU now. But that is your choice.
