Eric Veteran Posted September 28, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 28, 2008 They really need to Fix Media Player 11 in vista, when it just runs in the back ground for no reason. And sometimes if you actually use media player to watch a video, it won't close correctly. You'll still hear the audio but media player is gone. Only way to get rid of it is to kill it in the task manager. Had it happen on 32bit and 64 bit Vista. WMP doesn't run in the background on my machine except when I have it open. If you're talking about "wmpnscfg.exe" it's the media sharing stub and you should be able to disable it in msconfig if it bothers you. //bullet
Same as above, I've never had a problem with WMP11, other than some visualization errors due to graphics drivers. I have to admit, seeing the new WMP versions is probably one of the things I look forward to the most when Microsoft releases a new OS. =P Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/611956-windows-media-player-12/page/5/#findComment-589931240 Share on other sites
DigitalE
It's a fake, I saw not to long ago a "Windows Live" Resources pack for WMP11http://fediafedia.deviantart.com/art/Live-...-Ver-3-69986706 WMP12 will be in Win7 or maybe released for Vista first. -image- That looks a whole lot nicer than WMP 11 :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/611956-windows-media-player-12/page/5/#findComment-589933436 Share on other sites

andrew_f
The top half of the program should use the Aero style IE and Explorer use, with the search box in the same consistent place. Billy Gun
Am i the only one who generally thinks that WMP is crap, lol? No, you are not the only one, but for me WMP11 is the best one and after it Itunes is te second best (itunes 8 is quite nice), but let me guess some resons you don't like WMP: - You don't have a big music library; - You don't use/care to tag the music files correctly; - You don't care about album art; - You find your songs by folders (and WMP11 can do that) But I understand that most of the people don't use the above "items". AnthoWin
Haven't bothered to read all 10 posts, I don't get why there are two development teams (possibly 3) for: 1) Windows Media Player 2) Windows Media Center 3) Zune 3.0 software Now I know WMC is in its own league but I couldnt see why WMP and Zune couldnt merge into one. Apple did it with iTunes and as far as I've heard Zune software is a worthy competitor to iTunes. WMP+Zune = consistent and awesome! Leo Natan
Good for you. Skulltrail-old
WMP11 isnt that old and works fine, so if it isnt broke then why fix it? They aren't fixing it, they are trying to replace it. Kinda like when WMP10 (for XP) was replaced with WMP11 (for Vista, then later XP). shakey_snake
Gapless playback? Preppy Veteran Posted November 4, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 4, 2008 Gapless playback? *crosses fingers* All the UI changes in the world don't amount to a hill of beans if WMP sucks at the actual playback of files. Pat added that years ago in ... WMP9(?) or so via the cross-fading plug-in. Turn that on and set to 0 - that's how it's set by default.Note that for a while there there was extensive ... "distribution" of the "Radium" FhG codec AKA the renamed FhG MP3 Professional codec. That was/is single-instance and would break gapless playback of MP3 files. But if you don't have that, gapless playback should work today already for you. shakey_snake
Pat added that years ago in ... WMP9(?) or so via the cross-fading plug-in. Turn that on and set to 0 - that's how it's set by default. Cross-fading isn't close to being real gapless playback. Basically all that setting does is skip silence. What if the track is supposed to have some silence at the end (and/or beginning) of it? Gapless playback requires the file encoder to store gapless info in the headers as part of the file format (ie LAME or XING headers for mp3), and a decoder capable of reading this information. Currently all directShow players cannot do this, including WMP. The .wma encoders don't even store gapless information. So, the question still stands, is this added to WMP12 (and thus to DirectShow) in Windows 7? Kralik
Any information on the upcoming Windows Media Player and what file formats will it support? And when will it be release? I read on another forum that it plays all formats without installing any codecs!! The user said he loves it coz its faster than 11... is lighter and it played all the files that needed him to install codec packs in the past.. Something to get excited abt :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/611956-windows-media-player-12/page/5/#findComment-590077992 Share on other sites
Kussie
It's not play OGM files or some older DIVX and some xvid videos for me. Even after installing codecs. Preppy Veteran Posted November 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted November 5, 2008  Cross-fading isn't close to being real gapless playback. Basically all that setting does is skip silence. What if the track is supposed to have some silence at the end (and/or beginning) of it? You're incorrect, so the eye rolls is thus seemingly overplayed. :)Basically all that setting does when set to 0 (as I pointed out is the default setting) is play the tracks seamlessly back to back. If there is some silence at the end (and/or beginning) that silence is played and the next track is begun. The definition of track is first sample to last sample. Content of that sample is irrelevant. You might have further problems with the implementation (for example the noted problem of people who insert their own single-instance Mp3 decoders), but you at least by your own words don't understand the current implementation which makes me think you may not have actually tried it. ?
