The Greatest PSP Theme Ever Made

Recommended Posts

Well, it's finally out. Well over a month after his initial preview, the legendary skyfox2k has released his Inacor MCE theme. This thing takes XMB customization to a whole new level, and I'm sure as always other themers will learn a lot from it an incorporate it's innovations into their own themes. This is for M33 3.71 CFW ONLY. I think anyone with a modded PSP owes it to themselves to check this theme out.

Oh how tired i am of having to register in order to download these things...i'll pass until someone posts a link to the file directly. No offense, this looks great and i can't wait to try it. *Note: both links required me to register if i wanted to download the file, except the 01-12 file but that doesn't seem useful without the main download*

looks like alot of effort has gone into it. (Y)

What this guy did is really amazing. He basically went through the entire firmware and ripped it apart. To be able to change a move stuff around in the XMB, you need to go in with a hex editor and change the numerical values. He went through every line of code in the FW and and experimented with what changes what. Some things are already documented, but he discovered a lot of new things with this and was able to change things no one has ever been able to change before. Kind of hard to explain, but what it all comes down to is that the amount of work and time that went into this theme is astronomical.

Both those sites are well worth registering on if you have a CFW PSP. There are tons of stuff on both of them. I don't really feel comfortable re-distributing the files here as I don't have permission to do so.

Ok, I'm new to the PSP scene but up until now, i used themes that were simple drag, drop, and active under theme settings. This mentions DIC and flash/install folders being deleted....where though?

@Ji@nBing

I have an account there surprisingly...went to make one, said my e-mail was already used, tried my usual info and it worked. Downloaded but no clue how/where to "install".

First off, be sure you are on CFW 3.71 M33, otherwise you will brick your PSP. And before you start I want to make it very clear that anytime you mess with the PSP's firmware, there is a risk of bricking. So you are doing this at your own risk and I accept no responsibility if something goes wrong. First thing is make sure your battery is at least I'd say 75% full, and have the power adapter plugged in just in case. We don't want your PSP powering off in the middle of this :p.

Now turn off the PSP completely by holding the power switch for 6 seconds. Hold the right trigger button and turn the PSP back on (keep holding the right button until a black screen with red text appears). It should go into the recovery menu. Now plug in the USB cord. Navigate down to advanced. Then highlight "Toggle USB (flash0). On your PC a window will open that has the folders font, km, VSH, ect... Make a folder on your desktop and back up everything into it right away before you do anything else. This way if something goes wrong, you should be able to restore it with those files.

Now, delete the dic folder and the font folder. Copy the font folder from the theme archive to your PSP. Now open the vsh folder. Copy the module folder onto the PSP and over wright the existing files. Do the same with the resource folder. If you downloaded the separate 01-12.bmp and gameboot (and I suggest you do), you can put them in the resource folder now as well and over write the original files.

Now on the PSP hit back, then exit. Your PSP will reboot and if all went well, it will have the new custom theme. If you go into theme settings on the PSP, you can pick from a bunch of different custom backgrounds.

Please note that because this theme is so heavily customized, .ptf themes will no longer work properly. If you want to be able to use .ptf themes again, you will need to go back to the original theme by doing everything the same, but using the back-up files that you in the folder you made on your computer. The module folder will be hidden, so simply enable viewing of hidden files and folders to be able to see it.

Hope that helps and good luck. Feel free to ask if you have any further q's.

wont deleting the fonts folder cause problems with certain games (the monster hunter series is one i remember reading about), also what does the gameboot file do? it sounds obvious but CFW 3.71 M33 can already boot games from memory stick so why is anything else needed?

You don't need to go into recovery mode anymore.

Push "Select" when your PSP is on and go to "USB Device" and change it to Flash0 with the right arrow key.

Then go to USB on the XMB as normal ;)

Much easier now.

This is replacing the fonts with custom fonts, so it should still work. The reason why you delete them and then copy over the new ones instead of just replacing them is because a lot of times unless you delete them, when you copy the new ones over, it will give you an error that you are out of space. Deleting the dic folder means you won't be able to see asian fonts in the XMB, but it's a small sacrifice and most people won't miss it. It needs to be done to make room for all the custom files (there is only a certain amount of room that can be used in flash0).

A gameboot is just the little animation that plays right before booting into the game. All this does is customize it to fit with the rest of the theme.

:p I know, but I have some unreasonable paranoia of doing it that way. For some reason it just doesn't feel as safe to me as doing it through recovery.

Hi guys, just thought I'd chime in!

I've lurked on these boards for a few years now, never really made a contribution, but I'd just like to give you guys the direct link to the theme, and say that if you really like this theme, and think its worthy of your spare change, please donate to my fund! I'm trying to raise money for my university degree show (around ?250) and I put a crazy amount of effort into this theme, so its not money for nothing:))

Whatever you think its worth, even if only 50cents.

DONATE! (please!)

Remember that a paypal donation costs around 20p for me to collect, so donate more than that!

DOWNLOAD

01-12 that was missing!

Oh, and Ji@nBing, recovery uses the same usb access as the XMB menu one does. Theres no more chance of bricking as by the time the psp boots up, all the prx's and rco files and everything in flash0 has been moved into ram for use- thats why you have to reboot to see any changes.

So use the xmb recovery mode all the time! there is zero difference, and even if you did brick, theres pandora!

:)) Good to see you're a member here. I'll be sending a donation your way near the end of the month.

As far as the recovery, I know it's exactly the same. That's why I said "unreasonable fear": .

One small question. I know you're really busy these days, but any chance on a fix for that pause/resume bug when playing music? I know it's a lot of work because it's because of something you modded in the file, and you probably have no idea what that is, but that's a pretty big bug.

Oh for petes sakes, I had JUST upgraded to 3.80 M33 like 2 hours ago :( If I had noticed this theme earlier, I wouldn't have upgraded...

Me too... I'll have to wait until it's ported to 3.8...

Hope it happens really soon...

 I'm still on 3.71 M33 because of this theme. I won't use the new features in 3.80 and I would much rather have this theme. I'll only update when a) games start requiring 3.80 or higher; b) the theme is ported. Whatever comes first :p
