Are you running the 3.0.621.0 build? It seems to fix a few of the usability issues from previous versions.

Unfortunately, yes. I also had issues with Eset Smart Security during the beta / RC stages. I'm happy knowing that I'm well protected but version 3 has introduced a few issues that I didn't experience with 2.7. It might be because I'm using 64bit - I was sure they used to have a combined 32/64 bit version but now they've got a seperate somewhat concealed section for the 64bit version. *shrugs*

The good.

1. Mcafee Enterprise 8.0 is by far the best.

2. AVG <---I guess

3. Nod32<-- Have never used but hear enough good stuff to nominate it.

4. Kaspersky

5. Avast

The Bad.

1. Any other Mcafee software that is not Enterprise 8.0

2. Anything Norton after 2002 is horrendous. The newer the more problems it has. Anyone that does Internet Support or PC repair can understand.

3. Trend Micro <--Worse than Norton.

I've always loved AntiVir; it's got one of the best detection rates for a free AV (better than AVG, though I'm still a big fan), and it's not bad on resources. I prefer the old UI to the new one, but oh well.

Check out http://www.virus.gr/portal/en/ for good comparisons of AV's. Some of the results are pretty surprising.

NOD32, though I have to say that version 3.0 isn't very good. Popups keep appearing, even after disabling them, and it started messing about with web access the other day as well. Certainly nowhere near as polished as 2.7, though the interface is much nicer. I don't know whether it's a 64bit Vista issue. Also, when installing it last (from the official site) it gave me an error message in a random language (Polish?), which was quite weird.

I've noticed that too - you disable them and then they're activated again within ten minutes. But security wise, its top notch. You can fiddle about with the web access protection a bit like the firewall in the setup menu. Once you've set something there you don't need to do it again.

NOD32, although i use the Smart Security Suite because i'm too lazy to manage a better, standalone firewall

as for those with issues of pop-ups and errors, i'm on vista x64 ultimate and i've had zero problems ever since ESS came out of beta. during beta it wouldn't save my settings but now it does everything perfectly

maybe it's a software conflict for you guys

Cana't see it being a conflict, its more a UI fault if anything - its the pop-up settings when you right click on the icon in the system tray. You untick them all, then 10 minutes later they're all ticked. This is Windows XP SP2 and SP3 btw.

Those tests are outdated. AV Comparatives is more recent and NOD32,Antivir and KAV coming out on top.

I was using NOD32 2.7 on my old PC, and liked it very much. I built a new PC a few weeks ago though, and when looking at NOD32 3.x, I heard it wasn't the same hotshot that 2.7 was. So I went back to Kaspersky, which I used to use.

I'm on Vista 64, and Kaspersk 7 has worked perfectly for me.

Eset Smart Security for me. Best ?40 ive spent in a long time.(Y))

And is that version 3 you are using?? Because from a lot of posts here it seems version 3 isn't very good and needs a lot of work.

I'm switching from Kaspersky to NOD32, but I need to know if it is OK to download the latest one which is version 3?

Stick with version 2.70.39 until they streamline 3.0
