Hurmoth
Mac sales up over 40 percent year-over-year Apple later this month is expected to announce fiscal first quarter revenues of nearly $10 billion for the three-month period ending December, fueled largely by the ongoing resurgence of the company's personal computer business, according to one Wall Street analyst. In a research note issued to clients Monday, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster downplayed concerns surrounding Apple's retail channels, saying he expects the company to announce record first quarter sales of approximately 2.3 million Macs. He noted that data from market research firm NPD for the first two months of the December quarter indicates that Mac sales growth was up some 60 percent year-over-year. Figuring conservatively, the analyst said sales of 2.3 million Macs would indicate growth of 43 percent year-over-year compared to 28 percent yearly growth during the same quarter last year. Munster also discounted some iPod-related concerns, saying he now expects Apple to best his previous estimate of 24 million to 25 million iPods sold during the December quarter. "While there were reports that Apple Taiwanese supplier Catcher missed its quarter due to a cancelled Apple order, we confirmed with Catcher that it did not say the miss was due to Apple," he wrote. "We now expect Apple to report iPod sales of 25 million to 26 million, which is slightly ahead of the Street expectations of 24.7 million units." The analyst also expects iPhone unit sales of approximately 2.2 million for the quarter, which is essentially in line with Street expectations of 2.26 million. "The iPhone is still in startup mode, so '08 is more of a foundational year for the product than it is a growth year," he told clients. "We believe it is more important that the iPhone product line progresses in '08 (with feature improvements and price decreases) than it is for the iPhone to see significant unit growth." Overall, Munster expects Apple to report per-share earnings of $1.73 on sales of $9.73 billion, which includes a gross margin estimate of 33 percent. "While it is difficult to predict what the stock will do around the quarter, we believe the December results, coupled with new Macs announced at Macworld, will increase Street confidence that Apple will have sustained Mac market share gains in 08," he wrote. Ayepecks
Good news. I don't own an Apple, but use them a lot at college, and I think they're pretty good. I don't find them any better than Windows personally (or any worse either), but they're a good alternative. FloatingFatMan
And the 2 most likely reasons for the growth? 1) Mac's now use Intel technology 2) Mac's can now run Windows. Which means users get the best of both worlds. The rather slick UI of OSX (no one can really deny people LIKE eye candy, and OSX is nothing if not eye candy), and the ability to multi boot so you can play your games AND access the huge amount of Windows software out there. But there's a rather large downside to the increased sales. As the number of Mac's go up; so do the chances that the virus writers will start to pay attention to OSX. Outside of gaming, there isn't much I bet. Every software is meant firstly to WindowsPC, you need to find the Mac version all the time. Yes you can use Windows on a Mac now, but what i have seen the Mac beauty is in their software, great for Pics/Music Albums. The other advantages i saw on a MAC was the nice AC Power plug that is magnetic but then again if you need to use the laptop without battery, if that slips, it wont break but your work in the PC will be KAPPUT. If you need to replace Laptop ou Desktop computaer parts, is it the easy on a MAC reaplace parts like a normal PC ou LAPTOP? I know to replace on those but i dont think on a MAC is that simple. I only see estetic benefits on a mac, not pratical as our software and hardware reality that we live on. Lucky ****** I only have 5 shares, but I got it when it was at $96 so while I haven't made no where near your friend, I have made a nice profit on it. Every software is meant firstly to WindowsPC, you need to find the Mac version all the time... I never have to "find" a version for Mac. Most of the time the software for a Mac comes on the same disc as a Windows version. In some cases there are companies like Microsoft that have versions of software sold separately (i.e. Office). But for the most part, software for the Mac isn't hard to find, it is just know where to look and what you're looking for. Best Buy is a great place to start considering how much software they have. Or Amazon.com. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/613549-mac-sales-up-over-40-percent-year-over-year/#findComment-589137220 Share on other sites

I'm not sure how hard technically, but you need to give it a good yank to get it out. Replacing any laptop parts is hard in my experience. There are no real standards involved beyond memory and hard disks, everything else is custom to the manufacturer of the laptop. The same applies to Macs. I used Windows for about 10 years until last year when I got a Mac and I'm honestly more productive on it. Each to their own though.
