Any chance that original post can be edited to include the images again or at least remove them, made it a bit hard to follow and I love this guide as I use it all the time (use it to set up friend's systems as well).

Great help this topic was :)

On my Intel Celeron 2.4ghz with 2 gigs of ram, I am able to stream 1080p with no troubles. It took a bit of tweaking here and there, but it works flawlessly now :)

Love being able to watch my anime as well. Had to figure out how to make it show up subs, but wasn't hard to find in the transcode folder.

Spork, all anime you download should have subtitles in them. I have noticed that some Anime will play with the subs loading in auto, others will only show the subs if you go into the transcode folder and select the file that says ( SSA ) or whatever the subtitle format is. When you select that file, it will start the anime with subtitles enabled if you selected the correct one. There will be a couple different files in the folder for each anime, so just look through and make sure you choose the one with the subtitles in them.

How do you change the font, size, and color though? I have not run into those options yet. I always thought that most subtitles were hard encoded into the file, and you could only view them in the format/style they chose to encode into it...

Also, there is a image on the last page showing on a Sony tv a movie being streamed, and there is a awesome little graphical user interface for playing... how do you get that? I only have the little |> || symbols that show up in the bottom right corner... lol

Anyone? sad.gif

I'll have it somewhere, I'll have a look soon.

Boz (neowin member) created a website for creating covers that look better than the above, I can't remember the address right now, but someone else should.

Well, I found out that I can not stream Anime or Foreign films in 1080p. Something about the subtitles bogs my system down too much. Without subs, I have no problem streaming 1080p.

I love how PS Media Server works on my Samsung TV DLNA. I don't even need the ps3, the software works on my tv just as well :)

anybody get MKVs to work with avisynth/mencoder anymore?

I believe since the last two PS3 firmware updates it is impossible to play MKV files unless I use just the MEncoder or TSMixer engine.

I am still using the latest beta .409. I've left all settings unchanged since the last time I got it working.

Try reducing the transcoding quality (it transcodes when subs are in use).

Under the transcoder tab there is a drop down menu. Value is (2 highest) by default.

NEW VERSION ps3mediaserver 1.20.410 contrib r29:

ffmpeg updated

Applied patch to support thumbs for fotos

Fixed some bugs (The refresh bug is solved. @ExSport: with the chapters enable I don't get any exceptions)

https://code.google..../downloads/list

I'm lost now... I upgraded to the newest media server, and now I am unable to play 1080p.... it is just too skippy, says my system doesn't have enough memory/power, but I was able to do this before.... Nothing has changed, except for updated the software. If I click disable subtitles, I get audio, but no video. If I leave subtitles enabled, I get everything, but it doesn't play at a decent framerate.... wth just happened lol. Their forums are of no help on this.

Also to add. If i click any of the trancoding videos to watch, they will not display a picture, only audio, unless I select one with subtitles. It seems to be an issue with subtitles and the transcoding. With no subs enabled, I get no picture, If I use subs, I get a picture, but it can not handle the strain of subs and picture. If I select the tab to disable TSMuxer under Mencoder, it will give a picture even with subs disabled, but I get the same stuttery lag. If anyone can do some research on this for me, it would be greatly appreciated. I spent roughly 2 hours looking it up, and found nothing on it. Never had this happen before, until I updated. I have uninstalled the newer version, installed 1.10, and still get the issue, so I'm not sure if there is somehow still a updated codec or something somewhere I need to remove.

But in short, I have to currently have subtitles enabled if I want to view a video, because with them disabled, it won't show a picture. It worked before I updated, but now it does not.

Shagrath is back, so expect new builds coming our way, here is the first - http://www.spirton.com/?p=146

There has been an update released today of PS3 Media Server, from 1.20.410 to 1.20.411. The changes are:

  • Double check for Mplayer existence and font generation (useful for latest Sherpya's revisions)
  • Ability to shutdown DLNAorgPN automatic support for a given renderer (see DLNAOrgPN attribute in the renderer conf file)
  • Some hack stuff for mpeg2 remux on Bravia TVs
  • RAW generation fixed
  • Custom mencoder quality settings for a given renderer

I compiled it at another user's request since it's not yet available for official download.

Here is the download link in case anyone else is interested.

Note: When you run the program it still says 1.20.409, just ignore it.

And finally, welcome back Shagrath! Thanks for the new build!

I wonder if this will fix my problem... I have had to revert to only 720p as of the moment. Something up with TSmuxer and MEncoder just giving a blank screen for any video format I use that I disable subtitles on.... I should have just stuck with what was working properly lol.

Well, 1080p still does not work streaming it over anymore... But, I found if I copy the movie over to the ps3, no matter what size it is, the ps3 will play it... Nightmare Before Christmas - 15gb works flawlessly..... too bad it uses so much space lol.

What build are you using?

What build are you using?

The newest one that you posted. I have even reverted back to the original one I started with that worked when I first used it, but ever since the 1st upgrade to 2.whatever, it just doesn't work anymore. What I used to do to get 1080p to work was just check Totally Disable All Subtitles. But now when I have that checked for my 1080p, and I choose MEncoder, the screen is a totally black blank screen, but I can hear the movie playing. If I uncheck the box, I get the picture back, but my computer can then not handle the amount of data, and I get a skippy unwatchable movie. Before I upgraded, I would just leave the box checked, not have subs, and still be able to watch my 1080p movies... I can not use any other encoder as well. TXmuxer or whatever just does the same black screen or gives corrupted data, as well does all the other AVI/whatever I choose. MEncoder is the only one that ever seems to work... lol, im such a newb at a lot of this.

Ya, that one. But like I said, I even uninstalled it, reverted back to 1.10, and it wouldn't work like it used to. Something about the initial update, maybe a driver/codec it installed that it doesn't uninstall that is causing this issue...

Hey,

I've found that when using the subtitle option (i think) on mkv2vob it transcodes the video with YES (SUB) showing, it takes longer which i'm okay with but does it lower the video quality? I was under the assumption that it was just adding a subtitle stream etc into the video, but does it lower the video quality? :/ if so is there a way of adding a subtitle option to the video without it having to transcode the video?

Thank you for the guide (:

Is there an archive of all of the builds by any chance? I want to go ahead an install this new build, but the one I am using now has proven to be incredibly stable and reliable, so in case there is something I do not like about this new version, I would love to be able to revert back in necessary. I am currently using 1.20.409

Just curious really, I am sure this new build is just fine, but just in case. So will hold off on installing this one until I hear about the older ones being available Ironically I backed up all of the older installers, but somehow I do not have this particular one I am using now.
