PS3 Media Server / Universal Media Server Guide

Recommended Posts

Is there an archive of all of the builds by any chance? I want to go ahead an install this new build, but the one I am using now has proven to be incredibly stable and reliable, so in case there is something I do not like about this new version, I would love to be able to revert back in necessary. I am currently using 1.20.409

Just curious really, I am sure this new build is just fine, but just in case. So will hold off on installing this one until I hear about the older ones being available Ironically I backed up all of the older installers, but somehow I do not have this particular one I am using now.

This should hook you up Larry. http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/downloads/list

The new builds are perfectly okay, the main bug fix was just the seeking issue with PS3 FW 3.50.

Sweet. Thank you. (Y)

Does it keep your settings when you install a new one? I did a whole lot of tweaking to the app (thanks to you I might add), and have gotten it to where everything works as good as it is going to work, so if it does overwrite the settings, I want to take some screenshots to know exactly how I had set it up. If it keeps all settings, then I am good to go.

Yes it remembers your settings.

That is what I thought, but just wanted to triple check. Will be updating it tonight when I get home from work then.

Is there any reason a 1080p .mkv file wouldn't play on my 720p TV? I can get audio when using PS3 Media Server, but no video.

The file itself as fine as it plays on my iMac.

Might be the computer is too slow to transfer, or it could be a option checked called Disable All Subtitles. I found that setting to cause my files to only display a blank black screen, but still hear the movie audio playing as if everything should be fine. If it isn't the subtitles, and you believe your computer to be fast enough, go into the Transcode folder, and try selecting another codec to play it instead of defaulted one.

The source computer isn't the problem (i7 iMac), but I'll try without the subtitles disabled.

Edit: That fixed it, weird. Why would disabling subtitles be an issue?

There is a bug at the moment with subtitles that are hardcoded into the video. If you disable them, it basically disables the whole picture. Didn't do it in the older version, but now something is causing it. I had the same issue, so I have had to be careful about what I watch lol.

Not many people have issues with it, as most people have a fast enough computer to transcode the picture and subs. Mine is only fast enough for Picture, so I found this bug very quickly lol. Still no replies in their forums about how to fix it or if they are even looking into it.

Worth it for the new icons alone, let alone all the other stuff :p Replaces the nasty green icon on the PS3 menu with an actual PS3 as well.

Source code is available, hopefully someone can compile for Mac.

The fastest speed I can get is 38 Mb/s on my wireless N connection (with my PS3 connected directly to my router). I see you have 93 MB/s, Audioboxer. Are you using a wired connection?

Yeah it's a wired setup, about 15m of cable for both PC and PS3 which probably causes slight loss in speed.

Bro, I went to your PS3 @ 192.168.0.6 and wow you have way too much porn on there!

anyway, ps3mediaserver == best.media.server.ever. I love this app having just discovered it about a week ago but apparently I'll need to go wired for streaming. mkv/m2ts are just a bit choppy on my N connection.

Is it transcoding? I had a bit of choppyness at intervals when transcoding MKV's, pressing pause and play would usually fix it for a while. I starting using MKV2VOB to convert to file format before streaming which seems to work perfectly. That way I can also FF & RW whatever i'm watching. All working down 100mbit wired connection.

I've used this program before. It works great. Just wish it didn't half-theme the controls/widgets. You got aero buttons and tabs, but checkboxes, comboboxes, and one of the scrollbar buttons for some reason look like windows classic. Not sure what's going on with that. Wish they'd fix that, cuz it irks me.

I figured. I guess I'll try connecting my laptop via Ethernet cable.
