Unimatrix Xero
OK all went well with installing the new gfx card driver install was fine and it works but ive now got a problem with my LAN connection, its perminatly on limited connection, after a few mins of messing around, i decided to try my Wi-FI and that works no problems at all, also my 360 works still, but my PC via the LAN card wont connect to the web. I decided to give Virgin Media a ring and after a few ipconfig codes and stuff the guy said it was a problem with windows. When we tried ipconfig /renew it timed out saying that the dhcp server couldnt be reached even though the service was running, the ipv4 address is a default windows one starting 165. (from what i remember) I would try a system restor but i have no recent restore points, does anyone have any tips on how to fix this? thanks Uni
Mindovermaster Global Moderator Posted January 24, 2008 Global Moderator Share Posted January 24, 2008 for one, its called a NIC (Network Interface Card) I dunno if they call it different where you live. Did you try reinstalling the drivers? are you sure its not disabled in bios or anything?
Unimatrix Xero
its not disabled in the BIOS as it was working perfectly before i installed th new card, and yup ive tried reinstalling the drivers (uninstall restart and then reinstall)

RAID 0
How many other computers are on your network? You're describing an IP conflict. Assign your computer a static IP. That might fix it.
Unimatrix Xero
there is the x360 which is wired and that it, how do i assign a static ip?

RAID 0
Are you using XP or Vista? Before doing anything, unplug the 360 and shut down your computer... leave the 360 unplugged from the router and power up your computer. See if that changes anything. RAID 0
Did you do what I suggested? If that doesn't work.. you might need a new NIC.
Unimatrix Xero
yup just tried and it didnt work, the NIC is built into my mobo so i cant replace it EDIT: ive droped into the BIOS and disabled the onboard LAN but i still got the error message come up Edited January 25, 2008 by Unimatrix Xero
RAID 0
Right. You can buy a PCI NIC for about 10 bucks. One thing before you do that.. have you gone to the MB manufactures site and looked for an updated driver for your NIC?
Unimatrix Xero
haha this is where i have another problem i dont have any spare PCI slots... ohh weel wi-fi it os now then
tunafish
how can it be NIC card drivers or an issue with a NIC card. It's picking up a connection as its on limited connection. If it was broken there would be NO connection. It looks to be an issue with IP addresses or something. Can you ping the router?
Phemo
Get some sort of Linux live CD and boot off that. If it has drivers for your NIC and can get an IP then you know your easiest option is to just reinstall Windows.

When i tried before it didnt work, when a rang up Techincal about this they said something about not releasing the IP address or something, we tried ipconfig /renew and ipconfig /release and on one of the commands it said 'Failed to connect to DHCP server: operation timed out' I have also tried a direction connection to my cable modem (by passing the router) and the same problem happens
nothin2seehere
Did you try a new cable? I know you tried a different port in the router, but if you're going direct to the modem and still can't get an IP address lease, I'd replace the cable first, then blame my OS. Someone said use a Linux Live CD: excellent suggestion and will rule out the OS.
