Windows7 M1 screenshot?

Recommended Posts

Wow, just because s/he's been right so far, doesn't mean they are right this time... Don't believe everything you see on the internet, images can be easily manipulated. You guys carry on, I see no one here is capable of proving that these screenshots are real.

What could we possibly provide short of an actual build or video of Steve Sinofsky saying its real that would make you believe? Answer: Nothing, because you're being absurd.

The screenshots validate the earlier review, and both the review and the screenshots have been confirmed by highly regarded and longstanding members of "the scene." Moreover, they simply look legit, whereas 99.99999999999% of the fakes out there look absolutely amateur and outlandish. The screens just look in line with where an early alpha OS should be, and the little details add to that authenticity (no faker would go about making a screenshot labeled Windows 7 all over the place and then make the version number 6.1, for example)

You're being unreasonably skeptical for the sake of being an *******, and you're going to look even more like one sooner rather than later.

i really don't care what they name it. iono, i'm moving away from windows more and more it seems. my desktop is dual booted with vista and ubuntu and i have a macbook pro that i LOVE! it's not the problems that i'm having with windows, it's just the features and the way things work with leopard that i love. it was different at first, but with more use i am growing to use it more then i actually use my desktop.

either way...fake or not...what does it matter. until it's out everyone can speculate all they want. that's what is with everyone and vista imo. they got so hyped about what it would be like and how awesome it was...and it had some flaws and now people down it.

well windows 7 is just a codename. likie longhorn was vista (vista name was anouced in july 2005)

I know its fake because of the windows 7 ultimate. in the about box. please that right there tells you its fake.

You're a retard.

Run winver in Windows Vista. Let me know what your banner says. Because mine says "Windows Vista Ultimate"

Windows Vista SP1 will be 6.0.6001, not 6.1

No. Vista was Windows Version 6.0 from the get go.

Why is this Windows 7 labeled 6.1? My guess is that right now they have forked the 7.0 kernel from winmain while they finish off Windows Server 2008, and these builds of Windows 7 are currently being built on top of the Windows Server 2008 kernel, hence they just bumped the major/minor version to 6.1 to differentiate it from WS2008. Expect 7.0's kernel to merge into winmain at WS2008's RTM and Windows 7 version identifier to really become 7.0

1. not everyone has vista or vista ultimate and I was talking about the early builds of longhorn not the RTM vista

2. we are talking about the about box that says windows 7 ultimate NOT "windows vista ultimate" ;)

3. 6.1 = Vista SP1

Wow, suddenly everyone's a beta expert on Windows 7.

Agreed!

Do people even realize you be going through at least 18 months of beta testing? Right now, I am enjoying Windows Vista and all its great features, functionality and technologies. I don't see any need to look into Windows 7 right now since based on the screenshots its basically Windows Server 2008 with AERO enabled.

I can understand from an enthusiasm point of view, but I am doing CCNP right now and we are running Windows 2000 Professional with SP4 in the lab. We need to stop thinking of Windows as some sort of Pokemon game where its all about collecting them all. Its an operating system, albeit, a modern, multimedia operating system. But its still an OS that is basically a traffic cop for your applications and devices.

Lets not get into rushing this, lets focus on it taking its time to incubate and relevant and appropriate occasions where it will be shown discussed - WinHEC 2008, PDC 2008 and so on.

also enough with the bashing on the internet mac+windows, vista sucks, linux geeks who gives a damn. In the real world do we care what you like to eat, that you prefer mcdonalds over wendys that your right handed or that your in love with your nighboors dog. NO so why bring it to the internet especially to a place that doesn't tolorete it. (even though I see rude comments still on the forums weeks after they are posted.....)

They look just how the first windows seven builds should look like, and i think they could very well be real, the only problem i have is that they stuck windows 7 branding in all over, and if its as early of a build as we all think usually windows vista branding will be shown as they would not take the time to change small things like that till later.

If i recall windows vista builds still had many XP brandings in them till the later builds.

1. Fine, talk about the early builds of Longhorn. Its not pertinent to the discussion. Windows 7 is being built off the Windows Vista codebase, not the pre-reset Longhorn code, including the branding code. Which means the code to identify different SKUs is there. All the images therefore have to be replaced in order for it to not show "Windows Vista Home Premium" on Windows 7 HP, for example, so why not take the extra five seconds to change the text in the image in photoshop? It probably helps the designers and coders easier identify what resource is what further along in development when final branding images are being made.

2. ...Yeah. I have no idea where you were trying to go with this.

3. No. Windows Vista SP1 = 6.0.6001, just like Windows Server 2008 will be 6.0.6001. The 6.1 change was a rumor that never materialized, which you can see from the fact that every single build of SP1 (as well as every post-Vista RTM build of Windows Server 2008) is version 6.0.6001

@statm1

If I would use only 1 gig, Vista would also reduce its memory-hunger, but now it has room, so vista uses it. im looking forward to an upgrade to 4 or 8 gigs.. and if i have 8 gigs, vista would use 2 gigs, i think. bcause it does not matter (mostly) anymore. i just installed stalker a few hours ago, and while installing, i got only 160mb ram free, means nothing worked smooth, not even my mouse-courser !

Go and read up on how superfetch actually works before making posts like that. The overhead of the OS is only about 350-400 MB, it is not as memory hungry as some people think

Minwin is not new, and as far as can be determined is in Vista anyway.

No, it isn't in Vista. MinWin will debut in Windows 7, the kernel in Vista is a rehashed version of the same NT kernel used in XP and 2000

Fake!, If it was real, I'd be annoyed that it's nearly the exact same to vista.

Why? it is an early alpha build, the coders at MS are not superhuman and to expect a vast myriad of changes so soon is just ignorant. If you are expecting the first alpha build to actually leak to be massively different to Vista you are going to be sorely disappointed because it will not be. Longhorn build 3683 was rather cool because although it was a bit rough around the edges, it also had a fair bit of new stuff in it, but you will not get the same wow factor with the early alphas of Windows 7 because the new kernel is in heavy development, meaning most of the earlier alpha builds will be mainly development concepts.

For starters, Windows 7 is supposed to be Version 7.x on the winver.exe

Incorrect, that is not necessarily the case, it depends on what branch of the windows kernel they are using. If they are currently using the kernel from Server 2008, then that would actually be kernel version 6.1

Wow, just because s/he's been right so far, doesn't mean they are right this time... Don't believe everything you see on the internet, images can be easily manipulated. You guys carry on, I see no one here is capable of proving that these screenshots are real.

Creamhackered has been alpha and beta testing for years, he has a lot of contacts inside of MS, and he knows what he is talking about. At the end of the day the only real ways of proving the build as real would be to either leak it, or get someone from MS on here to confirm it, and as the alpha is currently covered under NDA the chances are you will get neither. I don't know why you need to be an ignoramus about it, but he truth is that creamhackered knows what he is talking about.

This isnt real, its a early early build and it has WINDOWS 7 ? branding all over it, if i recall windows vista didnt have any branding that early.

That really doesn't mean anything, it is just a stupid generalisation.

You know the year might pass faster if we don't look at Windows 7 and see what happens

Hell we might even be surprised with features if we weren't that curious

You really need to get off that high horse you're on and drop the immature attitude. You sound like a 5 year old kid. Stop trying to come off as an expert on Windows betas because you clearly have no clue what you're talking about.

Go look at early Longhorn builds. They all looked like XP and most of them even said Longhorn XP Professional because they were built using the XP Professional code until the code switch. Windows 7 looks like Vista because it's being built on top of it. All the major UI changes always come later down the line with only little changes before that. Just because the build number says 6.0 or 6.1, that doesn't mean it's not Windows 7. It will most likely have that 7.0 build number at RTM. Longhorn had build numbers in the 3.XXX, 4.XXX and 5.XXX range. Using your logic that would mean it's Windows 3, 4 and 5.

Also, go back and read through the forum from when Longhorn was all the rage and you'd see that creamhackered knows what he's talking about. Also if Chris123NT is who I think it is he would know what he's saying also and they both say these are real.

Stop trying to get real proof because anyone out there with Windows 7 M1 right now, that isn't suppossed to have it, is most likely too nervous to release anything. There's a reason the people that do leak stuff usually sit on releasing it for a little bit. Right now it's just too soon to start spreading copies of it everywhere.

I'm in no way an expert on Windows betas, but I learned a few things from the Longhorn period.

Then Windows 7 screenshot's are fake... Strange i remember screenshot's from 2000, XP, Vista always being real when someone like cream confirms it, and it's soooooooo strangeeeeeeeeee that xp and vista development was like those screenshot's..lol..

Kids remember there are some of us who had pass all transitions since Windows 3.0.. So when someone like cream speaks respect that..

It would be easier for all of us if you read through the entire thread instead of asking the same questions over and over again...

a) In Windows 7 the sidebar has been integrated into Explorer, and therefore miss the background ribbon and the configuration buttons on the desktop. In other words, you can add, or hide gadgets by right clicking on the desktop.

b) There will be no limited trial of this build until it hits the beta testers in the latter build stages. The M1 build is purerly for industry evaluation.

But hey, what do I know... you're the one photoshopping it right..?

Faaaaaake. Looks exactly like Vista.
lol at everyone calling it fake.

It's not funny, it's actually quite pathetic.

Oh no, it's Whistler and Longhorn all over again..

And minwin isn't based on previous code? This isn't Singularity. Minwin was mentioned years ago and then it was a project to break windows into easier to manage chunks, where has anyone said it is exclusive and new to W7 only?
