nekrosoft13
Maybe this problem is just isolated to creatives "wonderful" drivers. works perfectly fine with x-fi

I have found that when I run 1680X1050 that the crackling is there (even when I am just browsing neowin), yet at a lower resolution such as 1024X768 the problem disappears. It is VERY strange to say the least! Lastly, I am using an 8800GTX for a graphics card.

If I reinstall the sound card drivers AFTER installing SP1, then I have no audio related problems. Makes me think that SP1 is replacing some of the core audio files with its own. At least it seems to be working at this point in time. Maybe Auzentech will update their drivers (we are at RC5 after all (ie this is not a final driver set)), to accommodate for the possible changes which SP1 makes to the audio system. scowl
I believe I read some where that you must do a fresh install and can't just update your system with these Release Candidates? Does that still hold true?

SMELTN
I believe I read some where that you must do a fresh install and can't just update your system with these Release Candidates? Does that still hold true? By that you mean, uninstall the previous SP you had installed, then install this one, then yes. But if you mean you have to completely reinstall Vista from fresh, then NO, you do not.

DrCheese
does anybody know if this refresh2 will be released to the public at any point? Nah I really doubt it now given that RTM release is so close now.
marc2003
don't know why i asked really. i'm happy enough on the original release candidate. and from what i can gather, uninstalling takes ages. i'll wait for RTM and go for a clean install. :p
George P Global Moderator Posted February 3, 2008 Global Moderator Share Posted February 3, 2008 They're saying that SP1 might go out Monday. So if it's true you won't be waiting long. Monday for Wave 0 btw, with Wave 1 being released 2 weeks later. Only difference is that wave 1 has all 36 languages etc.
1Frothy
Wave 0,1,2 releases are all good. What really want is a slipstreamed iso. So what I think is this, for the monstrous price customers paid for Windows Vista Ultimate (where is the 'Ultimate'?) Microsoft should be sending those customers a new Vista SP1 DVD as a gesture of fairness and goodwill. Either that or allow them to download the iso. jwjw1
completly false, you can install SP1, and uninstall SP1 at any time unless your current Vista was installed using Vlite..then in order to update to any SP1 you will need to install Full un-edited version of Vista. Tell me about it. I had to format and install my regular copy of Home Premium instead of my vLited version after I heard this. :(
