One day after a shocking loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and wide receiver Randy Moss have announced they will not play in the Pro Bowl game in Honolulu on Feb. 10.

Brady, who was sacked five times in the Super Bowl, had been bothered by an anke injury since the Patriots' AFC Championship game vs. the San Diego Chargers. The Patriots have not disclosed a reason for Moss' absence from the annual all-star game. He was not listed on the Patriots injury report leading up to the Super Bowl.

Brady will be replaced by Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson, who joins five other Browns players on the AFC Pro Bowl roster. Moss will be replced by Cincinnati Bengals wideout Chad Johnson, joining Bengals wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who was named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster on Dec. 18. Together they become the first pair of Bengals WRs to be named to the Pro Bowl in the same season.

I can see a reason for Brady, but why Moss? And I'm certain had the Patriots won, both would be going to the Pro Bowl. It's a shame because it makes them look like sore losers.

Pro Bowl is so bad.

I think Moss might actually be in pain, and in recovery, and can't be bothered to play the Pro Bowl. Brady on the other hand, is just a sore loser.

the probowl should be one of those games that everybody looks forward to just like any other professional sport leage that has an allstar game, but for some odd reason nfl doesnt seem to care.

many MLB players care a lot if they make it or not to the allstar game but nfl players doesnt seem to care at all if they make since many top players just backout. is there something nfl isnt doing right?

some odd reason as much as i love football i find the probowl to be the most boring game ever compared to any other leages allstar games.

All due respect, but if you've played a sport for an entire season and went to the final game, chances are you're going to want to take all the recovery time you can get before getting ready for next season.

Agreed full heartedly.

Especially when the Pro Bowl doesn't mean anything to the team

Last I heard, Moss had some legal troubles in Florida. Maybe he wants to take time away from the game to resolve that.

But I don't really remember him participating in the Pro Bowl as a Viking either, even though he was voted in 5 times.

its a full contact sport, and injuries can end your career. they don't play 'hard' in the PB (allstar) game because it doesn't count for anything, so theres no use risking it. they need to find some new all-star angle.

Exactly, the game is meaningless so why risk injuries?

That last link talks about and injury effectively ended Robert Edward's career after going to the Pro Bowl as rookie, he never was 100% again.
