Bawx
I read somewhere about this, was scared to try it, got bored, did it, fixed the big nasty black piexel on my brand new monitor. (used, brand new to me) I just got a ball point pen... and poked the pixel. This pen to be exact. http://www.mypencil.com/mall/pap95801.jpg I got really close to the screen, bright white background so I could see the pixel perfect, and I just pushed on it with slight pressure. At first it got really small, but was still there. Then I pushed again, and boom, it kind of faded away. It felt pretty cool after. :D Looks B-E-A-youtiful now. So try it yourself. Be careful, don't push too hard. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/620725-how-to-fix-a-dead-pixel-in-10-seconds/ Share on other sites

JimmyT
Instead of a dead pixel you have an ink point now? Was it dead or stuck at black? Is it stuck at white now that you poked it or is it fully functioning? I also had something that looked like dark pixel but it was a dust particle from the inside of the screen and when I poked it it went some inches lower on the screen, poked some more and got off the screen. crazzyyfool
I didn't think you could ever get rid of a dead pixel, only a stuck one? LUTZIFER
How do you actually tell if you have a dead pixel, or a spot of somethin behind the screen? I don't own a pen, so I'll have to go buy one tomorrow, but I flicked my screen and the little spot didn't go away, lol. JimmyT
Hey all, take it easy with the pen. You might break the LCD panel if you overdo it. And not ALL types of 'dead' pixels can be fixed. Bawx
Yeah, I guess it was technically stuck. Maybe a dead one is unfixable, since it's dead... No there's no ink there, I poked lightly, so no ink came out or wrote anything. It's back to new, whatever color needs to go in that spot, not white or black. Peter Lyon
A bit of an off topic question, I have a generic 17" 1280x1024 monitor, that i've had pretymuch since they first came out, and i haven't got any dead pixels, i'd expect this monitor to get one or two because it was cheap, and is old. end question is... "are dead pixels likely, or is that only on large monitors?" markwolfe Veteran Posted February 19, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 19, 2008 Just tried this on a stuck pixel on the right edge of my laptop. I am at this stage now. Please advise me of the second step I need to do. On a serious note, my desktop LCD has a stuck on green pixel. I have tried slight pressure and rubbing. I have tried a 'randomized' flashing multi-pixel window to try to un-stick it. I have just learned to live with it at this point. LUTZIFER
What, none whatsoever? :p I don't even remember the last time I ever owned a pen. Haven't needed a pen at home before. I always do my writing down on here. Usually I type info in OneNote. Or if it's a phone number someone wants me to write down, that goes in Outlook or my cellphone. Only time I use a pen, is to sign my time cards at work, or sign my cheque at the bank, lol. Bawx
To be honest, I got super close the to pixel, and noticed a greenish tint. What's that mean? Still called dead/stuck pixel right? Just take the tip of the pen, get super close the the screen, place it directly on the pixel, might slide around a bit 'cause it's slick, then just push in. Wiggle a little bit, tilt the pen maybe. Worked great for me. Wish I had more 'cause it was fun doing it. :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/620725-how-to-fix-a-dead-pixel-in-10-seconds/#findComment-589218516 Share on other sites

Aldur82
I just quickly skimmed this topic, and I saw one question that hadn't actually been answered. "How can you tell if a pixel is stuck instead of dead?" The quick way to tell is, if a pixel is stuck then it's usually stuck on a colour. If it's dead, it will be black. That's the only way to tell visually. Of course, you could be very unlucky and have it stuck on black. Roger H. Veteran Posted February 19, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 19, 2008 i have 1 stuck one on my LCD so we'll see.. tried that program with the rapidly alternating color and that didn't work. I guess i gotta leave it longer. Right now it's stuck in blue so i rearly see it unless i look for it but it just kinda bothers me a bit (like when i read threads like this and i start searching for it again. LOL) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/620725-how-to-fix-a-dead-pixel-in-10-seconds/#findComment-589218701 Share on other sites
Bawx
Yeah my pixel was way to the left, where there's never any content, in the margin. So it was so obvious and clear. Noticed it right when I got home with the monitor, so I took action! Just hope people don't think I'm putting them on, and trying to damage their gear.
