Unimatrix Xero
A while ago i noticed that i used to have a diffierent ip when i used to power cycle my router, but now its stopped doing it, i need to refresh my ip is there any way of getting a new one? thankx Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/620896-virgin-media-rotating-ip/ Share on other sites
Ranta
Leave it off for 10 mins, in that time someone else may get your IP and then you'd get a new one. It happens with my ISP as well, if I disconnect and reconnect quickly I get the same IP, leave it disconnected for 10 mins and I get a new one. I8PP
Log off your isp (typically found on the connection/basic setup page of router setup, if DSL), wait, then log back in, or change the mac address of the wan port. If it doesn't work, perhaps Virgin has stopped issuing dynamic IP addresses. Brian M. Veteran Posted February 19, 2008 Veteran Share Posted February 19, 2008 I believe they only give a new IP address if the MAC address of the router connected to the modem changes. SnoopZ
Ok this works for me everytime. Release the IP somehow.... Although i can't remember where this is done.....somewhere in the connection settings though. Power off modem and leave it unplugged for 12 hours. Power on again and you probably have a new IP. Alternatively, using a different ethernet card will give you a new IP or swapping to a USB connection although this isn't recommended. Mike
if you cant change the mac of the wan facing device, turn it off for at least 4 hours and the lease should expire. you didn't answer as to why you need to change your IP tho ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/620896-virgin-media-rotating-ip/#findComment-589219051 Share on other sites

+BudMan MVC Posted February 20, 2008 MVC Share Posted February 20, 2008 Why do you think you need some special program to change the mac of interface in windows?? Most every driver I have ever seen allows for it. As to why the OP would want to change there IP? There is NOT ONE LEGIT REASON too.. He is trying to circumvent something, plain an simple. This is the ONLY possible reason to want to change the public IP. Are you SURE thats your model number? Your in the UK, correct?? From the dlink UK support site Reference: dir-301 No product was found using your search criteria. Please select a product from the drop down menu below: To change the mac of your windows nick. BTW this has been gone over many times before here.. Its like every week we have to get a how do I change my IP address ? |Rapture|
Changing the MAC of the interface you're connecting to the modem with won't make a difference anyway. I'm not that familiar with cable, what sort of access do you have to the modem? tunafish
I thought VM's ip addresses were assigned by DHCP. So really if you leave your router off for x ammount of time it should get a new IP issued. Why do you need a new IP? tunafish
Loads fine here and i am on VM. Changing your IP address wont help as it sounds like a DNS issue, unless your trying tio evade a ban Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/620896-virgin-media-rotating-ip/#findComment-589219802 Share on other sites

+BudMan MVC Posted February 20, 2008 MVC Share Posted February 20, 2008 There is no assumption about it -- like I said there is NOT ONE LEGIT reason to need to change your public IP -- other than circumvention. Hidemyass is a proxy site. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/620896-virgin-media-rotating-ip/#findComment-589220016 Share on other sites

Dan~
Mm, I don't think your IP will change will it? I've been with NTL/Virgin for years, one of the first few people in UK to get Cable in actual fact, My Ip's never changed in 5years or so, I never paid for a static IP neither... So maybe yours wont aswell. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/620896-virgin-media-rotating-ip/#findComment-589235644 Share on other sites
