Worst hard drive crash I've seen

Recommended Posts

I never saw (or heard) the drive when it was in a system. It was in a stack of drives that were ripped out of a bunch of Dell GX260/270s that had somehow made it into our server room. Last week we were cleaning up and found this stack of drives, and I carried them down to my office. Our network admin was in my office and started examining the stack of drives and found this one. We opened it up right there in my office and I watched him break the little "warranty void if removed" type seal over one of the torx screws. It had never been opened prior to this.

My guess is that it was a Seagate, as most of the drives from that model system are but I will find out tomorrow.

The drive was older then I thought, but still interesting.

It was a Quantum Fireball CR 8.4 AT out of an old Gateway PII.

Omg, that's worst than looking pics at ogrish... :s :p

If Jigsaw went after hard drives, that's what it would look like.

"I want to play a game...no, not that one, stop loading WoW."

A Quantum Fireball CR 8.4 AT huh? Looks like that HDD WAS a fireball. Good God I've seen some damaged drives in my day, but that one takes the cake.

This is why they only let you burn things to CD.

I can just imagine:

"*sniff* Hey guys, what's that funny smell, and where's that noise coming from?"

"Aye, nothing to worry about."

Day after...

....but the question is.... will it blend? :shiftyninja:

I actually LOL'ed on that one.

Hard drive smoke, don't breath it!

You should email that to Steve Gibson.
