Apple to Developers: Pay us for iPhone apps

Microsoft also doesn't make devices that run on windows / mac that are programmable either... kinda makes it hard to say that about MS then

Pocket PC's and Windows Mobile smartphones work pretty well with OS X, no thanks to Microsoft (you have to use third-party sync software). :p

There are .NET development environment available for Linux and OSX too, just not from Microsoft.

The only .NET IDE's available for non-Windows platforms are third party tools, none from Microsoft themselves, so the point still stands. Neither company goes out of its way to make it easy to develop for their devices on rival platforms, but at least Apple makes sync software (iTunes) that works on Windows.

Impossible for windows development.

Well, not entirely impossible, but unlikely. Look up the history of OS X and look at Yellow Box (which is an ancestor of Xcode). Apple made versions of it for Windows back in the age of NeXT and Rhapsody.

Didn't everyone see the comment in the SDK announcement?

If you want to charge for apps, Apple wants 30% to cover hosting costs etc. If you charge nothing for the app, Apple will host it for free. Simple as that.

I'm seriously surprised here.... these people who Apple keep abusing lately should be the first to sound their disapproval from whats becoming a sickenly greedy trend from Apple.

Paying a fee to Apple to provide software through iTunes is really no different than eBay charging a commission to sell something through their website.

Besides, Apple makes enough monthly "privilege" revenue from the only iPhone provider that must pay up each month for each iPhone sucker customer they have.

Of all the money-sucking tactics Apple has, this is far from the worst offender.

Aren't they so kind?

The only reason Apple does though is because their market was so small and the demand for it was so high they were pretty much forced into making it cross platform to make money... if it wasn't for ipod's in what was it G3 or G2? going to Windows it'd never of made apple nearly as much money as it did.... MS on the other hand, what does going to apple get them? not much of anything... the investment wouldn't get paid back in returns in a small market share

Boycott Apple!

I'm still surprised that all those apple related websites didn't openly revolt because Apple closed macrumors.

Since when all of them became such bad consumers?

It's been within the last 4-6 months. They've tarnished their 'image' a little bit with some people.
