Very recently I have not been able to check for new updates from the Windows Update. It just keeps giving me the stupid code, 8024402C. I have checked the database but it doesn't make any sense.

This is really annoying. I have not installed any new updates because I can't. it won't check for any. I have not changed anything in my firewall, as this is all the same, same exceptions and all set up ok.

This has also been happening with Windows Defender when it cannot find any new definitions and when you try to check, that also states that it cannot check for new definitions.

Any ideas please??

Thanks, I have looked at that. I have already checked everything that applies to me on this link. I had another look at my firewall program and everything is saying that windows Update has access to the required ports and should be able to talk to the server to check for the updates.

I even tried turning it off to see if that would help. Same thing cannot check for updates or install any updates.

This is really annoying me because I can't fix it. May be when SP1 comes out that may help??? But I won't be able to get it via Windows Update!! I will have to download it direct.

Anyone anymore ideas please, any help would be great.

If you've followed the Windows Help page, here's what I'd do:

- Try disabling all non essential startup programs using msconfig. I'd even prevent your firewall/anti-virus program from loading in the first place and see what that does.

- See if your system clock is set correctly.

- Admin Command prompt: net start MSIServer

- Install SP1 using the standalone installer. It's already available from a whack of places on the web. See if that fixes it.

- Reformat

I'd also take look see here: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsg...e206834&p=1
