KeeperOfThePizza
Is there a command that'll allow me to run in failsafe graphics mode? I'm having a terrible time installing my ati card. (Ubuntu 8.0.4) I have the same problem. So far it won't work with it. Boot up in Recovery mode by pressing the Esc key when the grub is loading and choose the second option then when the DOS style menu shows up choose Xfix and then resume bootup and at the sign in window go to the menu at the bottom left of the screen and choose Failsafe Gnome mode. CrimsonRedMk Member Posted April 27, 2008 Member Share Posted April 27, 2008 You can boot into the failsafe mode and run sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and when it comes to the driver selection screen, choose vesa as the driver. Plus, Compiz-Fusion only works with the accelerated video drivers installed. BTW, to make sure that you have an accelerated driver installed go to the screen saver section and try a GL screen saver and if it is fast you did it right.
