New Dreamweaver CS3 problem...

Question

Hi folks!

I registered to this forum because I can nowhere find a solution for my problem.

I read several topics about installation problems of Dreamweaver CS3, but nothing could help me with my problem.

the thing is, I don't have issues on installing the complete Master Collection. and every other program is running without any problems.

but when I start Dreamweaver, I get the famous green image, I get asked witch extensions should be associated with Dw and then the program starts. it goes through several preparation points, until it reaches the Initializing Files... and there it stops. after a few minutes it crashes.

I tried reinstalling several times, and each time I get the same problem.

funny thing is that I had the same installation on my older notebook and it worked perfectly fine. the OS is the same now, I just have more RAM on the new notebook, so I really need help on this!

thanks!

What OS are you running? Do the other programs run ok? If the other programs run do a Adobe update and install the Dreamweaver CS3 update and then try again. I have run into other mysterious problems that if you clear the Adobe cache it fixes it.

I would uninstall Dreamweaver again but this time going in and manually delete the left over Dreamweaver folder in C:\Program Files\Adobe. You should also go to:

C:\Users\Your-User-Name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver 9\ And delete -

or to be safe move this folder to a different location as a back up. This will ensure a clean install of Dreamweaver.

I don't have these folders on my computer!

I mean I have C:\Users\My-User-Name, but I don't have AppData????

That means you cant see the hidden system folders you will have turn them on so you can see them. Open an explorer window and under ORGANIZE select Folder and Search Options. Select the VIEW tab in the new window. Then uncheck the box that says HIDE PROTECTED OPERATING SYSTEM FILES and check SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS. Then you should have the AppData folder.

I read somewhere that this happens on a Mac too, so it really is not helpful.

I have Acer Aspire 8920G (Blue Gem), Intel Core Duo Processor T8300 (2.4 Ghz, 800 MHz FSB, 3MB L2 Cache)

4 GB DDR 2, 320 GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 9500M

Windows Vista Home Edition, BitDefender Antivirus

I even read somewhere that Dreamweaver can conflict when starting up with Microsoft Groove, so I uninstalled it. Still the same.

I also read it can conflict with the Antivirus, so I uninstalled that too, still the same.

I had all those Adobe programs installed on my previous notebook and I had a site defined. now I just moved all the files on this new computer in My Webs. is that the problem??? should I remove them completely and add them AFTER I install Dreamweaver and run it for the first time? seems illogical...

all other programs work properly and even Dreamweaver worked on the other notebook... it's the same installation disc...

Did you try right clicking on the program icon and clicking properties, then under the compatibility tab, checking "run this program in compatibility mode for:" windows xp sp2?

There is no reason to do this. Its Vista Compatible. I am running it on Vista on several machines and never had to do this.

EDIT: I assume you are the admin on that machine and are running CS3 programs under admin correct?

hello again!

thanks to the Adobe troubleshooting website, I think I found what the problem is:

it's my user name. it is said that I have to remove all special characters from hard drive and folder names.

this leads to another problem I cannot solve.

my user name which is obviously a part of the path to the files has a special character. pretty stupid ey? but, that's my real name, can't help it.

now, I would like to change it, but don't know how. is there a way to do this without having to reinstall Windows??????

Hey, I'm having the exact same issue. I'm trying to run the 30 day trial of Dreamweaver CS3. It installs fine but as soon as the green loading window says "initializing files," the program immediately shuts down. I'm actually using a brand new Acer Aspire 6920. It's also in the new gemstone series... Is there perhaps an issue with these peticular laptops? I'm really hoping for some kind of quick solution. Thanks.

Hi, same problem here in Italy, on the Acer Aspire 8920g, even with the italian version of the program.

Dreamweaver CS3 stops loading and then crashes when showing ?Inizializzazione di File in corso??

I have found this fix in the net: http://thevistaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=13762 but when i try to download the files it seems i'm not logged in... but I AM loggeg!

ok, this might be funny again, but I opened Computer management and cannot see the Users, I see System Tools, Storages and Services and Application...

This happens because you're not using a Business or higher version of Windows. You can change your user alias from the "User Accounts" section of the Control Panel, but your folder names will never change.

You might want to try creating a new user account with no special characters outside the ASCII character set.

My Account name is simply "Pasquale" so no special characters in it.

I don't think this is the reason for the problem.

Anyway, it seems it happens only on the new Acer 8920g and 6920g series...

ok, i can?t believe it but?. maybe the fact that we are using 4GB of RAM (that Vista can?t recognize) could means something?..

Maybe we shoud try to use only 2GB and install again the program?

I was sure it was hapening only on the 8920g and 6920g series but the only thing that seems to be in common with some people that are talking about the same problem on another forum is the fact that all the computers on wich this problem happens have got 4GB of ram.

P.S. on my 7720g i have 3GB DDR2 ram and Dreamweaver CS3 works fine.
