:No-Frost:
It's pretty easy once you got the trick... All you had to do is create a REG file with the next lines: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.flv\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}] @="{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}" There you will get only .FLV thumbnails for Windows XP... But if you want more thumbnails, all you had to do is change the extension in the line for the new extension you want to habilitate... It will look like this (For .mov for example): REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mov\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}] @="{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}" Notice the [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mov now there say .mov instead of .flv like in the first code... But to make it easier, just add all the extensions to just one reg file like this: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.flv\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}] @="{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mov\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}] @="{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp4\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}] @="{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}" There you will have .FLV, .MOV, .MP4 thumbnails activated... The reg keys are all the same, just the extension changes... Try it out ^^... Works like a charm :D :D :D Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/634019-flv-mov-mp4-thumbnails-for-win-xp-dd-working/ Share on other sites
LightIdea
But see, Windows XP doesn't understand what .FLV .MOV or .MP4 are without some form of codec instruction. I tried it on a vanilla SP3 install and it doesn't work. :No-Frost:
Good point... But, at least with KMPlayer installed I don't had any problem with this ... Mmm The files must be associated with some codec or program I belive, so Windows can handle the extension properly... Heres a SS how it looks my files: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/634019-flv-mov-mp4-thumbnails-for-win-xp-dd-working/#findComment-589363009 Share on other sites

earlcaulley
Can't wait to go home to try this. I switched converting my home videos from wmv to mp4, and it sucks not seeing what they are about. SilverL
Yea, I think you'd still need a codec installed. I think after I installed Vista Codec Pack(on XP) I was able to see thumbnails. I cant be too positive right now, I'll post again later when I get home and check. But then again you should have some sort of association in order to watch the videos, so as long as there is an association, they should show.
