Until I see cold hard, believable evidence that Stardock trumps VALVe in terms of Revenue p/y then I call bull****.

However, and more on-topic - this software seems like a good idea, for us lazy people

Talk about being a blind Valve fanboy. Why does it even matter to you whether Stardock is bigger than Valve or not? Valve makes a first person shooter and runs a download store. How big do you really think they are? Or are you just a Stardock hater for some reason?

I like the idea of Impulse, the same as I like certain features of Steam. One of the main downfalls of getting your games on Steam is that you have to have Steam running to play the games, by the sound of it, Impulse doesn't need to be running to run the applications that are registered with it.

The main thing I want in Impulse, which is already in Steam, is equality. I want to have Stardock programs as the default view on the 'store', I want it to show a variety of programs that are relevant to my previous purchases. Not that I don't like Stardock software, I just don't need any more software to make my computer look pretty.

I use neither service, Mascrin - talk about jumping to conclusions.

It doesn't matter to me, what matters to me is when I see something that doesn't quite constitute to the facts I've been given (in this case, Wikipedia in favour of Valve, nothing but word of mouth in favour of Stardock).

If I was a 'fanboy' I'd dismiss any evidence I'd ask for, and believe what I wanted to believe. Do you have a problem with me wanting the evidence to support the claims? If so then you're a little misguided on what a 'fanboy' is.

Impulse will be vendor neutral. We even put this into our publishing agreements. So whether it's Corel or THQ or 2K Games or whomever, they'll all get equal billing.

I guess the value proposition does very little here to me. Can we somehow put or list in our accounts applications and games and whatever that we got outside of Impulse? Kinda like in Steam how you can add games that we've already installed and purchased outside Steam.

Stardock has already signed on many of the largest PC game publishers to put their titles onto Impulse.

many? largest? What is many? How large is largest? Any examples

ecause Impulse's key platform elements are not on the client, it is extremely fast in performance, uses relatively little memory on its own

extremely fast? relatively little? Can you give us a hint of what's fast and little use of memory to you? Oh right, it's a web application! If IE's going nuts, Impulse will go nuts.

Of course this makes sense to companies. It costs them less (no physical stores, products to ship & stock, etc.), it costs us usually a bit less, but when **** happens, I would prefer to lose a CD than not being able to access an account with the equivalent of dozens of CDS onto it because maybe something happened in the company or something or the person can't somehow recover his account.

My thoughts on Impulse so far have all been extremely positive. You can really see what Brad and his crew are trying to accomplish with it particularly when you actually use the service itself.

My first digital purchase through Impulse was with the second Gal Civ II expansion. It has to be the smoothest and most impressive online transaction I've done with another company to date. Reason for that being after getting the product in the ol' shopping cart and sorting out payment details, my game serial was automatically registered with Impulse and I was ready to download the game straight away (basically as soon as the credit card transaction was approved). It amazed me to say the least (and I can be quite cynical so thats saying something ;) ).

I really can't wait to see Impulse in its finalised form with all the features implemented (the most interesting one being the upcoming common multiplayer client!).

So Frogboy.

I'm fairly sure the answer is 'yes' but will the June 17th release change significantly from the current release (in terms of software offered?) I downloaded it on the 11th or so to check it out early.

So far I definately like it, though as far as I can tell it wastes a bit of time redownloading stuff it had previously when it launches. Not a problem for broadband users of course...but anyway.

Keep up the good work.
