Which video player can play ASX files and change the aspect ratio?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I need to play a video stream ASX file, of course the default player for it is WMP, however the image is in 16:9 but WMP stretches it to 4:3.

Too bad! I tried with Real Player, the video streams fine but again, I can't resize its aspect ratio.

MediaPlayerClassic is my favourite video player and would allow me to resize the video aspect ratio, however it crashes when opening any ASX file (becuase it relies on Real Alternative).

Quicktime cannot open ASX files, no luck with VLC player, MPlayer and Zoomplayer either.

Anyone knows any other video player that can handle ASX files and allows me to change the video aspect ratio?

Thanks for any suggestion :)

hi, thanks for the reply!

unfortunately although GomPlayer looks really good, it says there's a missing codec for this ASX file and it won't play.

this is the error that pops up:

--------------------

BINARY INFO

--------------------

FileName : europei1?WMThinning=0

it's pretty weird, since the file plays well with WMP.

It's 4:3 on my system - this may be an encoding problem on the server's end, since I'm betting everyone is seeing it as 4:3.

Ask them to fix it - that way everyone benefits. *thumbs up*

Yes it's on their end, but probably it would take quite some time before they fix it and I usually prefer fixing things 'myself' ;)

Quite bad WMP doesn't allow changing the aspect ratio of ASX files.

The error code I get with MPC is 0x0000005

The problem with MPC is that it relies on RealMedia or QuickTime settings, it doesn't work on its own, so I'm not surprised it doesn't work.

640 x 480

that's the feed information i get from it. So that's 4:3. It's not coming in 16:9 for sure.

yep i know, that's why i need a player that can resize a video without worrying about the aspect ratio. both wmp and real player can resize videos but they keep the aspect ratio. since it's 640x480, i need a player that allows me to resize this to 16:9. from what i know, there's none :D
