homerguy
I want to connect two computers together to share files between them using a crossover cable. Both computers are connected by a crossover cable. One computer is connected to the router by an ethernet cable and the other is connected by a wireless adapter. But I have no idea how to make them see each other. Any help would be appreciated. +BudMan MVC Posted July 3, 2008 MVC Share Posted July 3, 2008 Um if your computers are connected to the same router -- why would you think you need to connect them together with a crossover cable as well? Do you get lights on your interfaces when you connect them? Are you wanting to just use APIPA or wanting to set a static? I would suggest you setup a static IP on the crossover interfaces. example setup. To connect to the PC from the laptop you would use ip address 192.168.2.2, to connect to the laptop from the PC you would use its 192.168.2.1 address You would have 2 networks -- the router network, and the crossover network. The gateway would NOT be set on the crossover network, and no point to setting dns on it either. To access either machine from the other you would either depending on what network you wanted to use you would use either the devices routers network ip, or its crossover network ip. Is that enough help fo you? ;) edit: just so we are clear /24 is the mask ie 24 bits or 255.255.255.0 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/646919-setting-up-crossover-connection/#findComment-589529133 Share on other sites
