SuperJediMedia
I definitely want to OWN this on Blu-ray!!! I don't think any other country, except America can match it. America then need to spend 5+ years of Hard work like China done to accomplish this! America if you get some great Director like Chris Nolan, Stephen Spielberg, James Cameron, then a spetacular show may get orchestrated as well. London (No offense to you Englanders, you all still have a tons of HOT babes) don't have this many people Power. China has the biggest population in the world, and a civilization so old! giga Veteran Posted August 9, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 9, 2008 This commentary is FOUL. Seriously NBC, must we shame ourselves with politics? Doli
Good opening ceremony, NBC's commentary is still bad. I wish I had 5.1 sound again so I can unplug the center speaker and be commentary free like I used to do for Basketball and Football games on HDTV. Deletedforeverhaha
The Opening Ceremony is quite possibly the most extravagant, most gorgeous event held for the Olympics in the modern era. Absolutely fantastic. Did anyone's jaw just drop after seeing the dances paint with their bodies on the canvas, which was then used to be colored by the footprints of all the athletes? How about the Chinese athlete running around the membrane to light the torch? Simply astounding. Engineering and technology at its best in the sporting world. /I can't believe NBC kept cutting to retarded ads for TV shows and Budweiser during the march of the nations every five minutes! Seriously NBC, must we shame ourselves with politics?"Iran...the antagonist", "Laos..they are communist by the way". Then of course a nicely placed McCain ad in the middle of the parade. Your quotes are well off. They said something like 'Laos, which is pronounced (proper pronunciation here), a Communist country by Vietnam' and I don't remember the Iran introduction, but it was almost nothing like that. The McCain ad was paid for by John McCain. NBC can't block advertising for a politician if he or she pays for it. That's illegal. NBC can't block advertising for a politician if he or she pays for it. That's illegal. What was the need to say they're communist though? They certainly did call Iran some sort of antagonist nation or something of the sort. Don't even get me started on the text messaging flag bearer that Costas had to mention--really nicely played there. Seriously, you really can't deny the amount of negative or in no way related comments that Costas and company poured onto the the athletes representing their country--just unnecessary. But at least they did a great presentation before the ceremony right? Their "historic" presentation completely skipped the 20th century up to, as the NBC guys so specifically put it, "about 1978." And yeah--cutting off for commercials every 5 minutes is pathetic. Especially on the ending fireworks--you're on on a whole 12 hour tape delay for crying out loud. Quote of the day, NBC: "People are probably confused as to why there's Karate being performed around school children." Quote of the day, NBC: "People are probably confused as to why there's Karate being performed around school children." What are you talking about? I'm denying it completely here. He said absolutely nothing wrong about Laos. I don't see why mentioning that they're communist had any negative connotation to it. It's a fact. There aren't many communist countries left, and most people tend to know what they are -- Laos not being one of them. I didn't hear almost any of the negative connotations you brought up, although they did mention some political subjects but hardly went in-depth in any. And your quote is out of context, big-time. The quote was made because there was a somewhat confusing part to the opening ceremony that involved children who really came out of nowhere and there were performers doing some sort of martial arts almost inexplicably and the two didn't seem to mesh very well. I find absolutely no problem with the comment. Somehow that whole segment involved global warming somehow as well, which I sure as hell would have never got if he didn't discuss it. So, yes, given that it was confusing, I find no problem with that comment. Just IMO, but I think some people are digging a little too much into the comments made trying to find problems. Yeah, surely the average viewership that NBC is broadcasting to has a good history with communists. Right--I don't take any offense to it (I'm not from Laos), but why mention it all? Sure they didn't go deep into the politics of some nations, but all of it was just unnecessary for this event. The commentary of the earlier live streams I watched in the morning at least weren't facepalm worthy compared to tonights. (BBC). Did I come here to hear about irrelevant politics or the athletes and the competitions? My quote isn't about the context of it (concerning the children). Notice I bolded the word karate.
