Another Amiga author has released their old commerical software for free download. The author's name is Arron Hawke & he released his commerical game called The Eire Raising Adventures of Seamus O'Mally FULL GAME for free download. This game was sold through F1 Licenceware but since F1 Licenceware is no longer in business, the author has released the game for free download. You can download it from http://www.aminet.net/search.php?path=game/role&start=100 .

The readme for the game which contains the games requirements are at http://de4.aminet.net/game/role/eraosom.readme

Wing Commander : Privateer Remake

Nice, but not within the scope of this thread. It's a fan-made remake of a game that is still commercial (although it's not actually sold, but it's also not been made freeware).

how about Ground Control (3D sci-fi tactical RTS)? :

http://www.massive.se/NewsArticle.asp?id=1065

Yes, a very good find. It's listed over at http://www.liberatedgames.org as well (a good place to start when you can't find what you're looking for in this thread).

You can also find the download for the game at this URL at FilePlanet if you're not interested in the GC2 multiplayer demo.

great thread cappuchok,

I took a look at liberatedgames.org's forums and found out that S.WI.N.E (RTS)can be downloaded for free:

http://www.stormregion.com/

Liberatedgames also brought back memories of Allegiance (great online MP space sim with strategic gameplay), which indeed has been available for free for quite a while (47MB download):

About a yr ago, I posted that the games of Beam Software were released several years ago for free download which was true but unfortuntely, the games are no longer legal to download.

On November 16 2005, the webmaster of World of Spectrum contacted Alfred Milgrom who was the former MD of Beam Software and Melbourne House about the legalities of the Beam Software games. Alfred's reply is at http://www.worldofspectrum.org/showwrap.cg...lgromAlfred.pmt .

Well, Beam Software is owned by Melbourne House who was purchased several years ago by Atari which means that the games aren't legal to download anymore considering Atari's stance on the subject.

Not too long ago, 3D Realms released several of their old games for free download & the games are:

Trivia Whiz

Word Whiz

Caves of Thor

These games can be downloaded from http://www.3drealms.com/downloads.html.

On another note, I like to mention to people that even though the Zork games were distrubuted for free download years ago, they are no longer legal to download because Activision has taken them out of free status which means that they are no longer legal to download. This was reported several months ago at http://liberatedgames.org/ .

The webmaster of Classic Dos Games ( http://www.classicdosgames.com/ ) has gotten permission from Moonlite Software to allow the free download of these games which are:

Clyde's Adventure

Clyde's Revenge

Taking Care of Business

The above games can be downloaded from http://www.classicdosgames.com/moonlite.html .

Classic Dos Games also got permission from Psion Software to distrubute Psion Chess for free download & the download is at http://www.classicdosgames.com/psion.html .

Classic Dos Games also got permission from Mark Currie to distrubute Chopper Commando for free download & the download is at http://www.classicdosgames.com/simulation.html .

Classic Dos Games also got permission from Ron Balewski distribute Mah Jongg -V-G-A- and Mah Jongg LapTop for free download.

Classic Dos Games also got permission from the vice president of Microforum International to distrubute Arcade Volleyball as public domain because because the original Microforum Mfg no longer exists and no one is left to claim rights to it & it can be downloaded from http://www.classicdosgames.com/sports.html .

I like to mention that Back2Roots.org has been dead for the last month. People are trying to contact the webmaster/owner of Back2roots to find out why the site is dead.

Let's just hope that Back2Roots isn't permantely dead because if it is, this will be a sad day in the history of gaming because they were the best Amiga site & they had legal downloads of games.

On another Amiga-related note, Team17's official fansite Dream17 now have new stuff for download: PC versions of some classic Team17 games. They are currently looking for CD32 versions to put up for download, so if you can help them out, visit their website and drop them a note.

Me and my mates used to play a game called Liero back in secondary school, during lunchtimes in the IT rooms.

Ah I remember it now, not content with playing Tribes we discovered this little gem.

As the PCs were Windows 98-based, the game ran fine though I think you'll need something like DOS Box to play it now.

Leiro Classic (Vanilla, no flake) - http://www.freewaregaming.com/aa/liero.html

Liero Extreme (Full fat, strawberry sauce) - http://lieroxtreme.thegaminguniverse.com/

Enjoy, we did!

Classis Dos Games has gotten permission from Clay Hellman to allow the registered versions of his 2 shareware games for free download. The games are:

Cybersphere

Cybersphere Plus

Both of the above games can be downloaded from http://www.classicdosgames.com/psycon.html .

On the MSX side, Tero Weckroth and Mika Savolainen released their old MSX1 game called Miner Machine as freeware. This game is from 1986 & was inspired by Boulderdash. You can download the game from http://www.msx.org/Miner-Machine-freeware.newspost3662.html . Just remember that you need an MSX emulator to play this game if you don't own an MSX computer.

3D Realms has released 2 more of the Apogee shareware games for free download & the games are:

Major Stryker

Xenophage

You can download the full registered version of Major Stryker from http://www.3drealms.com/news/2006/03/the_a..._legacy_10.html

You can download the full registered version of Xenophage from http://www.fileshack.com/file.x?fid=8692

I gotta give thanks to 3D Realms because they are releasing many of their old discontinued games for free download. Now if only more companies would do what 3D Realms is doing, we would have lots of free games to play.

Another shareware game has been re-released for free download. Rainer Deyke has released his shareware game called Lightslayer as freeware. I played this game when it was shareware (several years ago) & it is a fun game but it's great that this game has finally be re-released as freeware. The game is avaliable for Windows & Macintosh & you can download it from http://eldwood.com/lightslayer/index.php .

Also check out Wrath of Darkness which has always been a freeware game but it is very similar to Lightslayer.

As another note, there is a freeware BASIC compiler called Freebasic which is avaliable for Dos, Windows & Linux & it is compatiable to Quickbasic & you can download it from http://www.freebasic.net/index.php/download . I am writing this here because this is an alternative to Quickbasic. Quickbasic is a commerical BASIC compiler released in 1988 by Microsoft & it has been discontinued for many years. Freebasic is as compatiable as we are ever going to be to Quickbasic.

I also like to mention that Dosbox has been updated to version 0.65 & you can download it from http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1 . Dosbox is an important piece of software. It is a Dos emulator & it is needed if you have any version of Windows from Win 2000 & above because these OS's don't have support for DOS & many of the games/apps in this thread are Dos based.

As I mentioned before, it looks like Back2roots is totally dead. The site has been non-assessiable since Feb 2006. If you need free legal Amiga games goto http://amiga.emucamp.com .
