it's easy to make mp3's with mediaplayer (at least from cd's)...do like this, open notepad, copy and paste this text into it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMediaPlayerSettings]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMediaPlayerSettingsMp3Encoding]

"LowRate"=dword:0000fa00

"MediumRate"=dword:0001f400

"MediumHighRate"=dword:0002ee00

"HighRate"=dword:0003e800

and save it as a .reg file, not .txt

.Then you just install the key into the registry. And the next time you start Mediplayer you can choose if you want to rip songs to wma or mp3.

AFAIK that registry hack won't work with RTM WinXP because they removed the MP3 encoder...which is why you have to buy it.

why would you want to anyway? mp3 is inferior to wma .. you get the same sound quality in a smaller filesize with windows media.

And go here for the free MP3 codec!
